Sounds wonderful
It's beautiful
Does it Wonderwall?
I have a kay from 1938 (or maybe around then). I believe it's a kay k62 but I have no information about it. It looks good at least, it broke but I don't know who to have fix it
Let's just pretend it sounds better because it's old.
obviously the guitar thats had more time to open up will sound better.
Is that the one you bought at main st music in Carrboro? I live in chapel hill and have bought many a piece of kit from that place. Cheers from NC
lacks bass, it's usable but overrated for me
Sounded like you were playing an acoustic. Then it sounded like you were playing a hollow body. Dumb.
The old one has a whole life behind it and you can hear it in the sound.
i have a similar acoustic i got from my grandmother after she passed away. a truetone archtop. purchased new in the mid 60s for around $40 ($400-ish adjusted for inflation).
ill never sell it, as it is priceless to me.
What is the name of the song you play?
no difference
Wow, sounds way better, I mean if you’re going for that type of worn out, Bon Iver type of sound
kinda weak bass and mids resonance for such a huge body but the woody tone makes up for it
Wow! That archtop has a melancholy soul.
My dad's side of the family are bluegrass musicans. My aunt had an old Kay bass she said she bought from WLW that thumped big and warm. My first guitar amp was a Kay 703 my dad bought for me in 67.
I wonder if it is the wood differences that gives the older archtop guitar a better amazing sound?
Was gonna be so mad if the capo was gone on the second demonstration
This seems like a folk machine
Picked the arch! Sounded great
No need to tape down, just change strings one at a time – 1,6,2,5,3,4, and tune after each one. Under 10 minutes. Not annoying at all.
Wish my Kay was an archtop hollow.
They have what l call a vintage tone. Woody, middie, thin!
Try a less weak riff plz
I prefer the "dumb" guitar ????
Svetov!!!???
The old archtops are wonderful to play. They seldom have that bottom end or the crisp top end that we want from a modern acoustic, but the designed push in the middle gives them alot of volume. They were ment to be heard over horns and drums without amplification.
Bill Burr if he was a guitar nerd
I like the modern one more ????
The pick guard is kept off the surface so as to not stifle the sound. Ditto for the bridge not being glued.
What's your problem with the loose bridge? Violin and cello players have to deal with the same issue;• and these "Jazz-Guitars" were made more like violins for good reasons. You've got your harmonics, to correctly place and adjust that bridge.
Even if it's from the '40s, as a catalog guitar I suspect it is not a solid top? Those would be incredibly valuable now, but I'm quite sure it is made of steam pressed plywood. Still a fine sound!
????????☠️????
My cheap Cort guitar sounded like that with very old strings.
Is the other guitar all wood?
Even if the Kay sounded poorly, the aged wood smell alone is worth the price of admission
I kinda like the 80 year old one,???????????????????? the sound was pure and nostalgic to the ears
What is a regular acoustic guitar? Bad comparison.
My grandfather had one.
wow so cool. i have my Dads Martin Guitar i believe its from the 30s or 40s
I've got a Kay f hole arch. But don't know the year, but plays nice / sounds nice. It was found in a barn in the Carolinas that was being razed… glad it was rescued
The Kay Jumbo Arch top
Wowwww
Who cares, their grandpa guitars! Play electric ???? I did find this informative though, because I didn't know Jack White had a famous anything????????
