I didn't know this was a thing, but then I don't know many things. I have steel string and like to play fingerstyle, Lianne La Havas type songs. Only recently felt sore and needed to build up a callous from extra power on harmonic note strings … Getting electric soon! Very looking forward to how easy it will feel to play this one song in particular that's 70 % bar chords :/
I'm puzzled by this video. I play steel strings. My finger-picking has never hurt but it used to wear my nails down in about 20 minutes. Now I have acrylic nails from a salon on my picking hand only. On the other hand, the pain from holding chord shapes has never left me, despite the callouses.

Own both. Play both. Both are awesome. But either cant do the others job musically.
I play acoustic guitar with my fingers and i do some strums and solos and never got any blood in my fingers yes it hurts a bit but nothing crazy
are you not supposed to play with your finger on steel strings? I thought having calluses on both hands was just a thing that happens?
I feel like classical guitar is much more better and looks cooler and the tone is so nice better than acoustic guitar hands down

I have never had my fingers bleed from normal finger style. When my fingers bleed on acoustic it's because I used the back of my finger, and the nail as a pick, and I cut up the cuticle where my nail starts on the finger and bleed from there. How do you bleed from just plucking a string???

interesting. i’ve been playing for 3 months now on steel and only finger picking and the only pain is from playing for multiple hours but only on my left hand

If I'm using a pick I'm still hybrid picking can't not use fingers
I mean i play with fingers. Theres a lot of songs where you have to pick multiple strings at ones and maybe im just not skilled enough but i dont know how i would do it with a pick
