  • The Yosemite pups in my Performer sounded nothing like yours in this video and were noisier than I liked. First week I owned it(Oct 2020) I replaced the Yosemite pups with Aguilar's hum cancelling PJ set, put in new controls, dumped the greasebucket tone circuit, and strung the bass with D'Addario tapewounds. I run it through a Mesa D-800+ going to either a single 4 ohm GK NEO IV 212 or 1 up to 4, 8 ohm Markbass cabs, two 115 and two 210 cabs, and all is well! It's a great playing bass and I really have enjoyed it for almost 4 years now.

Thanks for the vid, awesome playing and an awesome tone!

  • Great review. Just picked up this bass — didn't intend on getting it, but was $300 off at Guitar Center. Had it set up with some flatwounds. Plays great. Not a huge fan of the satin, but I'll get over it.

  • I know I'm a bit snob(ish), but I just can't wrap my head around a "P bass" having more than one pick-up. I know what it says on the head stock. I get it, but I would just identify it as a "P/J" (I believe Fender also named some of their similar basses, that way).

  • Damn that's punchy!! The J REALLY cuts through. Are you playing through a GK or something with the brightness turned up? I've heard this model before but never so pronounced. Killer tone. ????

  • Hey Rib, that's a beautiful bass! I've got a PJ setup in my Charvel/Jackson bass from the 1990s. I put a set of Geezer Butler EMGs in it. I highly recommend these pickups if you want to give that beauty a makeover. These passive pickups are hot like an active system, but retain passive pickups qualities. You probably know this already, but I'm so impressed by these I couldn't resist making the recommendation. Keep the vids comin!

  • Awesome vid as always. Great playing (and pretty awesome bass face as well I got to work on mine ????) I really need to get a pj , that's most likely gonna be my next bass. I don't know if I will go with this one or a Lakland. I wish i could find a place that had them both to try but all the places around me have pretty sh*ty bass selection. Anyways thanks for the content brother. ???? I hope you and yours have a merry Christmas and a awesome new years.

  • Great vid Rib. Not just fun to watch, but a refreshingly dispassionate and accurate assessment of the precision. As always, your playing technique inspires. Proper bass playing

  • I don't get the multiple recesses on the saddle. I mean you want centered string spacing with equal distance from string to string, right? – because that's the most optimal thing for everybody! It's a modern thing that i really don't get, even Rickenbacker does it nowdays on their new bridges and turns out they found an even shittier method to implement it, as where the position of the saddle can be easily changed by millimeters by rolling it up or down. That means the positon can changed way to easily by accident without any fixed position to lock in + you never know if you actually set it correct – you always need to remeasure and look after it. This is especially annoying if you suffer from OCD.
