10 bass riffs with BOSS SYB-5

10 bass riffs with BOSS SYB-5

This video is just a demonstration of application of this pedal on various songs.

I first recorded dry tracks, then I made a reamp by passing the tracks through the pedal. The photos of the pedal with the various settings were taken during the reamp, so they are the settings that I really used.
The pedal does not have excellent tracking, so it does not perfectly reproduce all the notes that I play with the bass. However I have tried to show this pedal to the fullest to show its potential.
I hope you will appreciate this effort

  • Good sounds, but many of the examples are very glitchy. Sounds like it’s hard to control the notes sometimes.

  • Absolutely the best demo of this pedal!!! The others only demonstrates weird sounds, which makes us believe the pedal is useless!

  • Sounds like THE pedal to go for if you want that classic 80s synth bass sound. I've just bough a used one from Japan. Which pedal superseded it?

  • The tracking on the pedal is really hard to get right, I wanted to hate it so much however when I bought one I realized I needed another one on the board as well! ????

Great vid I use this to try out new sounds. Keep up the great videos

  • Some of the earlier basslines you played sounded pretty decent with the Boss SYB-5, but on some of the later ones you playes, you could really hear the lag of the pedal as it steuggled to keep up with what you were playing. You played beautifully, but the pedal is so very limited. I sold mine to buy the Boss Sy1, also the EHX Synth9 pedals, they nail synth basslines without the lag, they keep up with what your playing, they can both be used for live gigs. The SYB-5 is a nice pedal to play around with, at home, but in a live gig, it doesn't always work well.

    Great demo & playing.

  • I wonder if this pedal could help with that reese bass you hear in hardwave like Skeler, Klimeks, etc. Perhaps this pedal + some flanger and sustain? hmm

  • Hey! Nice tones and playing! I tried this pedal years ago and didn’t get it. Now I changed my mind! However, both in the video and from my own experience I’ve noticed the pedal is very tricky in terms of signal tracking and that is scares me, honestly. Do you have any suggestions? Perhaps it works any better with other configuration such as an active bass or other types of pickups (single coil or humbucker), perhaps a compressor before? Thx
