Hofner with tapes ftw
Great video!
'P' is for 'Perfect'
Man, I wanna get into that '51. Let's do a full 10 minute video about that '51.
Isn’t the bass guitar a relatively recent invention? 70 years or so?
Rickenbacker 4005
Well, Nos. 1,3, and 5? Never made a lefty model – and still don't. No.6? No lefty's 'till 2024 – I own one now. No.8? No lefty 'till 2013; I own one. No.9? Don't' own one; don't like the body. No.10? Always wanted a 4HH; didn't make those 'till 2020. Own one. As for the rest? I own those, too…
Ian Martin Allison…you blew my mind….you´re a star! Txs for sharing your knowledge
Ok, so I'm going to need a semi acoustic short scale with flat wounds.
Next video 10 modern basses to play
ampeg?
And in addition, I might point out something that I’m sure you already know as players that the low E string is 41hz so on a short scale 30” for the same energy applied to string it’s amplitude goes up which results in more bit or punch. Just a thought. Play well
Sorry for the late comment, but I just saw this. I think since Ian included the 65 fender mustang short scale he should have also added the Gibson EB0. To my point, one if not the greatest short scale bassist ever was Jack Bruce and he played a EB0 and man what a great sound IMHO.
I love Jeremy Messersmith. I'm a massive fan of his song Organ Donor and A Girl, A Boy, and a Graveyard. I just realized it was you playing in the SXSW 2017 show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZjddwV0l9U I've been listening to his stuff for years and had no idea it was you laying down those epic basslines. So cool.
i have a epiphone t bird, for rock. but my end game will be the stingray fo sho!
That ‘65 P-Bass is gorgeous.

Spector or Warwick?
any 5-6 string basses?
Yes Glen Campbell played a Fender Bass VI when he performed Wichita Lineman on the Smothers Brothers show. In the studio recording however, he borrowed Carol Kaye’s Danelectro 6-String Bass to cut the track.
Could you please do a video on the Rickenbaker bass explaining the ricko sound with the use of two amps please.
Kramer alum neck.
Bring out the beast. Bring out the Jaguar ????
I never had any desire to play a hollowbody bass or any Gibson bass. Gibson had some good guitars but they’re weak at making basses. The SG, the EB-O, the Thunderbird… all unexceptional, in my opinion.
And it’s “Death before Flatwounds” for me, even when playing Motown.
My fave is and will always be my 1978" 4001 Rick Cherryburst ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Awww… The basses were WAY too quiet in the mix. Talk = good, but bass = better.????
Ampeg scroll? Steinberger? Status? Ashley Pangbourne?
if you go on with these kind of videos, I will switch vom Guitar to Bass 🙂
Thanks for Sharing these Legends!
Where was Gibsons EB or nowadays SG bass ?
Gibson EB0, EB3?
Yep. I've played most of these basses and yes, it's important that bassists experience playing them before death. Ha ha ha ????
I already have played those 2 basses. I've been playing bass for 55 years…and counting.
The Gibson Ripper is not a classic bass?
