  • He played them live in concert. It's not unusual for band members to be re-recorded by studio musicians in production and mixing to get the best possible recording.

  • I'm not sure about Ace playing bass on Parasite, but it does follow the guitar, which is how Ace plays bass, but there is no way on God's green Earth that Ace played bass on Getaway or Rock bottom. Not his style at all. That's Gene all the way.

  • On the Album creatures of the night Gene and Paul didn’t play on each others songs the album had a lot of stand inns and prob why it is so good
But i do like Genes guitar playing on his songs and he did some great bass playing on his own too from that album

  • So, I'm confused how it works if the artist doesn't record a part on the album, then what does he do when the group tours and it's a hot song? He has to play the part, right?

  • Into the Void was the BEST song on Psycho Circus because all 4 original members played on it and you could tell it was the band of the 70's and after a decade and a half, it was so refreshing to hear.

  • Kiss has always been Pauls band, and Paul will let everyone know how he saved the band over and over. As far as Paul see's it any other player in the band can be replaced when it comes to recording an album.

  • Imagine what Gene and Paul would be saying able Ace if he didn't play on six songs from one of the earlier albums – lazy, unreliable, wasted, etc. Yet, for Gene no problem.

  • Gene is not a bad bass player, technically he is not that fast or amazing, however he actually has a nice, melodic approach – but is damn lazy. I’ve heard Kulick say he did not want to play bass and tried to suggest Simmons playing. But Gene was like ”Whatever” and went home, so the band had no choice.

  • I’ve always been a KISS fan. I have the utmost respect for Paul now. Good vid.

Might just be a translation issue since I can tell you arent a native english speaker but “late singer” means he’s dead and Paul is not dead.

    Great video ????

  • King of the Mountain, Fight hell to hold you….. Probably Paul or Bruce… But defo not Gene. Its just not his style of playing. Same goes for Exciter and I've had enough!

  • You attributed Tears Are Falling, Uh! All Night, and Who Wants to Be Lonely to Animalize, but they were on Asylum. Those were consecutive KISS albums, 1984 and 86.

  • I always though it was suspicious that Gene could play Torpedo Girl, thats a tricky bass lick. I Managed bands where led guitarist would do bass lines.

  • Interesting but not shocking, and — to me — not a real problem in evaluating Gene as a bass player. He played the songs live, of course. More important, aside from "Love Gun," I wouldn't put any of those in my own catalog of top Kiss bass lines. Gene's signature melodic walking bass style appears on lots of other tracks — Strutter, Rocknroll All Nite, Nothin' to Lose, Ladies Room, Two Timer, live Cold Gin, King of the Nighttime World. Not much of a blemish if you ask me.

  • I don’t blame gene Simmons for not want to play on dynasties I hate that stupid album and I’ve been a kiss fan since the early 70s

  • A lot of people don't know that most of the KISS songs were not performed in studio by the band members. Just like the make up they were a gimmick, and I was a KISS fan in the KISS army.

  • If you are a KISS fan like me, you definitively have to listen all the discography of Jean Beauvoir (his solo albums, Crown of Thorns, and Voodoo X), great music, great artist, he deserves much more recognition.

  • So in retrospect most of my favorite kids songs didn’t have gene.. well that’s fine by me, he’s my least favorite member.. even below Tommy Thayer and Eric.

  • He says 10 songs and 'not just obscure ones' then goes on to list mostly stuff from the late 80's and through the 90's, which is THE most obscure and crappy era of the band. Most fans only know/care about the classic era stuff from 74-79

  • I’ve always thought of Gene more as an entertainer than a serious musician. I can’t discern a particular style in his bass playing.

  • Gene plays bass like all of his fingers on his right hand are actually thumbs. I don't think anybody else plays like that and I'm not even sure if it's bad or good.

  • I am not any way down on Gene, a Great member of Kiss. His bombastic personality has helped the band greatly. But I am a huge fan of Paul and glad to see him get some recognition.

  • Gene sang on We Are One which is sort of a ballad so is Your All That I Want. His solo record has ballads on it as well.
