10 Minute Secret To Jamming Bass Lines & Riffs That Work
This week we’re looking at how to use basic chord tones of the root note and the fifth in creating a bass line that works beyond the simple root note. We’re going to create bass lines that lock in with the drumbeat and then outline the chord progression. These bass lines can create a lot of diversity and are great for travelling around the fretboard.
This lesson is from Module 2 of The Creative Bassist, the upcoming course from Talkingbass

Mark greetings. Can u take an e minor scale n show how to construct a metal song using notes STRICTLY from that scale????
This is tremendous!
Great. Basically root, fifth above and below, octave. Simple but effective. Bass does not have to be complex and often better simple.
Thanks for your videos – been playing guitar for many years and thought I’d pick up bass super easy but there’s much more to it! Slow progress but having fun
– just can’t stop hitting unwanted strings
That chord progression at 10:26 is very Floydian
Mark, you never disappoint, you always come up with the best ideas, easy to follow, not too long and not too short videos! You meet and exceed hitting the MARK! Thank you!
GOOD VIDEO MARK
One of these days, can you show us a very difficult music? One I've aways have trouble playing is "Colorado Bulldog" from Mr.Big.
Well explained. When I've jammed with people for the first time, not knowing what they want, how they play and what the feel is, always stick to the root and fifth until you get better acquainted ????
can't wait for this course!
Mark is the absolute wizard of bass instruction. ????
Another fantastic lesson Mark! Amazing what you can do with just the root and 5th. So many options with just two notes. Wonderfully taught as always. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, those are usefull progressions to play with ..????
Loved the “I will survive” progression at the end there
Best tuto tips ever watched on YT
