2 Drills That Will Transform Your Ability to Play by Ear
In this video, I’ll walk you through two key pillars from my “Hear It, Play It” method that transformed my musical ear and bass playing.
What You’ll Learn:
– The concept of Applied Technique for building speed, dexterity, and fretboard knowledge.
– How to apply these techniques to real songs like “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door.”
– Exercises to develop your ear and recognize chord progressions.

Hi James, I’m a bit confused. Been studying some music theory on my own. Wouldn’t the vii chord, the F#, as a triad, simply be an F# diminished? Thanks for all your great content. ????????
awesome tips james , thank you
Hey James,

Awesome lesson!!
Will be interesting to see how useful others find this. I personally think your second pillar is by far the most important. As I may have said before, I was in a band in the late 70's that played covers of chart songs, allof us were play be ear musos. We had to work out chord sequences by ear between us, and many of them did not fit the numbers system. That became incredibly valuable learing, Before I played bass, I played guitar so I knew how majors' minors, augmented, ninths etc sounded as I played them. I think that was a very valuable acquired transferable skill also, to bring over for bass playing.
