I always hear bass players say improve your tone with practice. You telling me amps, amp heads the knobs on your bass or the strings don't improve your tone?

What's wrong with my tone?
Getting the right gear and learning to e.q. your rig absolutely makes you better, gets you hired more, and gets you recorded more. We all know people who can play that we would never want on our recording. Having the proper attitude also goes miles if you actually want people to hear you. Making music isn't about you, its about what people want to listen too.
Its mostly in the fingers.

New strings will usually do it!
Sounds trebble thin mean terrible, not my base sound.
Buy more gear, tweak it obsessively until you are happy, and then have the sound engineer completely disregard it and do whatever they want anyway.

So your solution is – buy stuff.
How?
Is there anyone who thinks that adding a preamp with additional gain, bass, and treble isn't going to result in a better sound? I mean, you could have done the same thing with a $50 tc electronic Spark booster.

Just no. I tried it. With flat settings you can argue that it brings good character, but the two other channels are just garbage…
