  • Hello, if I’m interested in learning how to play bass.
    Where do I start?
What kind of bass guitar do I look at?

  • I've been playing since I was 18yrs old. I am now 43 and I am still learning my instrument. Great interview, this man is a beast.

  • Us bassplayers know where we fit best, right in the pocket.

Thank you for making this video! You made many solid points. Like you, I riff every time I am practicing so to use all the songs that keeps playing in my mind, along with the opportunity to use some of these ideas as a foundation to creating a new song. Yes, being a bassist for the past 30 years, we come from a time where being good was a measure of your commitment to the craft of playing music and how professional you could be in public and studio situations. It is fantastic to know that there are still cats out there that put in the effort to better themselves, not only with their playing, but with all the aspects of their character, to help make the world a better place to live in through our actions, our art, our words, and our emotions.

  • I am a 70's child. Started playing at 17. Pick it back up years ago. Now I more of James Jamerson type of bassist. And enjoy the Stanley Clarke, Victor Wooten, Bootsy Collins, and Marcus Miller. Yet ,Chuck Rainey, Freddie Washington, Steve Arrington, that's more my style, I am a pocket player, stay in the pocket, learn the other people's best ways of sound and tone. There are a lot of great musicians, just have to your niche, and enjoy your sound and tone. I was taught to listen first, then learn, practice, practice, and practice.

  • Hey, Janek, what happened to your Bandcamp? I went looking for it, because I wanted to buy some of your old records next Bandcamp Friday and I was disappointed that Bandcamp was no longer an option. ????

  • I'm 53 and still learning… Not only that, I love it when I can learn something new on any of the instruments I play.. "Being a top notch musician is a journey, never a destination…"

  • FCBC! I used to love coming out to the Praize Connection on the regular!! I remember seeing all of the wonderful talent that came through there. I still miss it. What was the guitarist George's last name? His solos were beautiful, but I forgot his last name and I know he was in a group. All the best to you and your family.????????????

  • I'm 70 and follow his same philosophy. I'm always listening and learning. He's right. You can be the fasted funkiest bass player, but if you can't listen and learn to the other musicians in the band
, you won't feel the groove and not fit in.
This man has wisdom and the younger cats need to follow his advice.

  • As a 65 year old guitarist, I too am from the old school. And like you I’m still learning, listening and looking out for new music, new ideas while still listening to old music and hearing new things in old songs. One of my favorite things to do is share music with young musicians that was shared with me 40-50 years ago. It’s my attempt to pass on what was shared with me. That way the music will not die. Andre we all need guys like you who are willing to share your knowledge and experience on how to improve our crafts in all areas musically , professionally and personally. Thank you so much. You’re an inspiration to us all !
