  • Really like this little amp. Especially because my home office shares a wall with my wife’s and the kid’s bedrooms are across the hall. The 0.1W level is everything if you want to practice without headphones.

Tried the 5W at the store… not gonna work in a house you share with non-guitarists.

  • Just ordered this amp, love the review~can't wait to check it out. My 50w JMP and 4×12, doesn't work for home playing. Hoping this will be perfect. FYI on the tuning issues get some Big Bends nut sauce and apply a little to each slot in the nut you wont go out of tune for a year, then repeat. Best of luck.

  • Get yourself a JHS Little Black Box ($69us) to lower the volume even more but retain the sound of tubes running at full volume. This will act like a Master volume, especially for the Classic Gain channel. You'll be able to turn the gain all the way up. It does not require power and has only one knob. It wil only work on amps that have an effects loop. Do NOT run one into the front of any amp, it will probably damage the amp.

  • I just purchased this today and I’m really impressed with the different tones coming out of this amp. I’ve been using a LP and the secret is to learn how to use the volume and tone knobs on your guitar to get the best effect. This amp isn’t meant to be played with everything on 10.

  • I am not impressed by the sound. Sounds thin, tin can like. I have a Fender champion 20 that sounds way better than this.

  • Really nice review) I've played this amp in my local music store and it sounded pretty good. But do you know if it is also good with pedals, like big muff or any other distortion/fuzz? Nevertheless, I still wanna buy this amp)

  • Thanks. I think I'm going to go for one of these. I've had a mk1 Blackstar ht1r for years, and really like it, but these look great! Much appreciated review. Nice one. ????

  • I liked my DSL1HR through a 412 cab so much I bought the combo too. Now that 412 has given way to a 112 cab, still sounds great.

  • Thanks for the review. As far as I read in other ones it takes around 1 month to break in the speaker and after sounds much better.

Could you answer me some questions?
There's the lack of a volume controll on the clean and volume it up following in more crunch in the early beginning. In other reviews massive gaining starts around position 3 already. That's a pity compared with bigger amps for their great cleany Marshall sound. That's right? So,how to controll the volume since 1 Watt is very loud and what about pedals which should be better in clean channel? May it be the Combo will be too silent?
What about the emulated output in use with headphones? Should sound ugly, is the volume setable? I used to have a 250 Ohm headphone in a other Marshall Valve and working fine.

The DSL 1CR wants to be used for headphone use and sometimes for bedroom amping. Not sure if it's right for me. Thanks in advance! (There's a hack out for the DSL1, maybe H, to "enabble" it for 8 Ohm speakers – link in 2nd):

  • Hi mate. Great review. If you had a dual foot switch, would the reverb be switchable via the pedal, do you know??

  • I just bought this little gem… wanted a low watt low volume tube amp WITH an effects loop for my beautiful wet effects pedals! It's great with a volume pedal in the loop before reverbs for swells with long tails too!

  • I bought yesterday dsl1 and it sounds crappy, fizzy, muddy… Not the same as on youtube videos, on classic gain no matter how much i turned up volume knob, the sound is always clean, and ultra gain channel is horrible… Play through my epiphone, with alnico 2 pro humbuckers.

  • Is it big enough to put a 12" speaker in it? Speakers with 10 or 8 inch sizes typically lack bass even with the bass knob cranked. I am debating the DSL5 as well with the ten inch to upgrade to 12

  • This is a winner and I am not even a Marshall kinda guy. There also is a Vox VT20/40 with built in fx and tuner as there is the all tube Fender Pro Jr. at almost twice the price. This DSL1 sits in the sweetspot as it can sound (kinda) clean, overdriven and distorted playing with the gain.
