  • So you guys just cut through a huge amount of mystery that is the bass. My bass playing skills just multiplied in 30 minutes. In worship song settings we are handed sheet music with chords and little to no direction. For twenty years I have been playing the root. Yes, I am that guy but I didn’t know where else I could go. What a big new world there is out here!!! I didn’t know what a triad was, or what to do with it. Didn’t know how a mode would work in the song. I used chromatics but not much else. But never thought of using chromatics like that! Wow, and you guys have been hiding out in England this whole time? Really?

  • This was a really cool video. I'm going to level up my bass playing from now on, it's a great instrument and it deserves my attention. Thank you for all your great content.

  • I would give my kidney to learn bass with you, Scott. I'm absolutely in love with the blues jam you did with your two friends, "Pusher." If I could be anywhere remotely as skilled as you on the bass guitar, I'd be fulfillment embodied. I hope I can materialize enough wealth to get the opportunity. I'm starting my own business supplying exclusive music for Canadian businesses. I'm doing what I can, and I'm dangerously optimistic. Been making music for over 13 years. Released over 950 tracks since 2020 on SoundCloud. I'm a force to be reckoned with. Or perhaps I'm just a Geezer? Anywho… I'm always inspired to do more and challenge myself based (lol) on bassists like yourself. Thanks!

  • Cool video! Are those shapes only applicable for 1-6-2-5 progressions or can I use them in other progressions?

  • This was elevating to watch for me. I recently picked bass up after a 20 year histus, and i never was even good at it. But ive learned so much by just playing what sounds good. I understand time signatures and real, real basic note stuff, but ive got a good ear and a sense of rythm. I found these shapes and have just been playing with them, and im proud of how far ive come, and that my intuition led me on the right path.

  • 2:41 in case someone else wants to try it out themselves I don’t think this drum pattern is in the app currently, the most similar I found are Accelerator No 3 and Blues 1

  • Hey Scott
really enjoy your videos. I wanted to ask if you knew any jazz cds or such for play along and work on lines? Hearing chords along with playing bass is the goal. Like piano only tracks to practice with? Thanks!

  • 40 years drummer here, no longer playing due to back problems. 4 years playing (trying) bass. 2 years wondering why I can't improvise on the bass like I do on drums "why can't I get this? Why does anything other than learning riffs and scales seem impossible?" UNTIL NOW!!! Thank you so much guys! You gave me new hope and energy with this video. Question, what happens when we change the chords? If we no longer play CADG, I guess the "box" (rectangle) no longer works and we need to revert to the non-box?

  • Hey Scott, I dont know if you check these messsages, but I am going to go out on a limb and say this is the best video you have ever posted. Ive been learning the bass for the past year or so. Could never afford your classes so I have done alot of free videos.I have learned the major scales toyed around with the modes yada yada yada and always thought to myself. None of this sounds musical. This sounds musical and makes so much sense. Thank you.

  • I am always amazed at how some of the great bass players came up with their bass lines.
But your chord progression is not really conducive to coming up with a good song.
Also we need to know if its a country song, or rock, or reggae, of funk, or new wave etc

  • How about a video on the bass lines of Peter Cetera /Chicago? Esp. Dialogue Pt. 1 and Saturday in the Park.
