it would make more sense if you said the A minor pentatonic becomes C Major pentatonic if you are playing the C major chord, also to mention that every Major chord has a relative minor chord, in this case C Major its relative minor chord is A minor, ie. they are 3 semi tones away from each other. this is basic theory that every musician needs to know.
