  • No joke, ten years ago when I bought this amp (Vk212 mk1) I felt right during the point of sale that I had been a fool & made a bad deal – I never loved this amp but I tried, I became convinced that there was some frequency, deliberate, that made this sound like ass, tho the kleen channel sounded great, I bought it for loudness and high gain – and it all just sounded like ass when it was cranked :/ HOWEVER since investing in it again, modding and tweaking it, it sounds better – but only when I run a preamp into the kleen channel :/

  • Before watching this video (from 2 years ago), I saw one by a guy who was going for a hardcore metal tone and he couldn't seem to get it without using some pedal in front of it and one guitar. He never did explore the range of sounds with it and the cab he used was a cab I've recorded in my studio before and I hated it, so I think there are many guys like him who do a poor job of showing the amp's tones. Nice to see all the positive commnets here! I was interested in this amp and when I went to see one, I was given an awesome demo by a great guitar player. They had just finished an album with it, but had to move east, so rather than pay for their heavy gear, they sold it off before moving, keeping only their guitars and personal stuff. It sounded great in the room and great on the album as well. I bought the amp and have loved it for years. I've sold 2 Marshalls and a 100W tube Vox as well, keeping this amp, one of my Marshalls and a few others as well. All the bad rep BS is mostly because guys have a preconceived idea about an amp made in China, or they've watched reviews by crappy reviewers, but the reality is, it's a decent amp for sure and many of the reviewers are trying to use it for metal, when they should really be using a higher gain amp. Anyway, this was a great demo and thank you for putting it out there!

  • My favorite amp ????????????????????????,, put a mullard 12xa 7 in 1 and 3 position and tung Sol in 2 ND tube position ,, I think that was it ,, or mullard in 2 ND and 3rd and tung Sol in 1st position ,, 10 band MXR in loop and voodoo Lab sparkle drive ,, set to A/B ,, all the way ,, that knob screws the amp up ,,, needs to be all the way to a/b ,, gain on 3 1/2 to 4 ,, excellent wicked tone amp ,, my favorite amp now,,, nice clean overdrive tones ,, no mods needed ????????????????????????,, f that ,, 3500 $ mesa

  • I just got done modding my VK100 and it has CRUSHING metal tones now. Just added a bias adjustment, r100 bypass & changed a few caps and resistors and removed the reverb. I'd highly recommend modding them. It sounds SO brutal

  • Thank you for taking the time to put together this video! Of the many stories I've heard about this amplifier probably the funniest one I hear often is how guys will remove the Peavey badge just to save themselves the shit talking from others about how apparently bad the amplifier is but it sounds incredible. I guess most of that is coming from Mesa guys with $2k rigs ????

I'm a bass player but I picked up this amplifier for $225 along with a Tuki cover, foot switch, and Svetlana 6L6 valves. It seems that so many people bash on this amplifier for one reason or another but your video proves that it has some very decent tones.

I will say that there were some reliability issues on early production runs but were later ironed out. All are easily fixable. I've made a few videos on them already.

    Cheers!

  • I grew up playing through a Valveking 100 paired up with a jenson 4×12 cab. It sounds great, and is an absolute workhorse when it comes to playing live. You can't ask for much more at a price like that.

  • I was in a death metal band back in the 00’s and one of our guitar players had this amp and we toured with it for several years and it never once let us down. It sounds very very good when you add a hush super c and a sonic maximizer to it.

  • I play the Soladano SLO pedal straight through the IN on the clean channel and it blows people away.

  • Hey there! was watching this video and currently have the choice between this amp and a marshall valve state avt150 half stack, yet am currently having a tough time deciding which one to get. Which one would you recommend for a 7 string?

  • That amp sounds amazing actually are you running through anything else before the amp?

  • Have you tried jumping the fx loop? Just a normal patch cable plugged into send/return, it's only a slight difference, but it is noticeable…I also use a boost (tubescreamer, etc.) in front…of course this is a backup to my XXX, all in all though I think it's a decent amp when you consider price, versatility, and it is possible to get some gnarly sounds out of it

  • I just swapped a jet city 20h for a valve king series one.,, major upgrade. With a mxr10 band eq, it sorts out the harsh high frequencys. Great amp for the money

  • its a great amp especially if you consider price…bit of tweeakin and careful with gain,if u go over 12 o clock gets thin and fizzy . i actualy have it paired with cheap bugera 4×12 with bugera vintage speakers and that combo sounds just class and prs tremonti se …
