Strings are a crucial part of your setup—and that’s especially true for bass players. But are you playing the right set for your playing style and the sound that you’re trying to achieve? Dunlop’s bass players have taken string design to the point of obsession in order to provide a wide range of sets, each carefully made to enhance specific tones and techniques.
Our buddy Ian Martin Allison, one of the world’s foremost bass educators and a purveyor of formidable grooves, put each set of Dunlop Bass Strings through its paces to demonstrate what they can bring to your playing experience.

I'd love to hear the flat wounds on a fretless!
You started to sound like Bobby at the end where you were picking the flats!
yeah I hope these last longer than the stock strings of my ibanez Mikro bass I replaced them with Ernie balls and they’re too bright
Anyone know what those guitar stands/racks are (the one at the back in/on the cuboard)? Like what brand or are they custom made ?
I would think don't play stainless steel strings unless you have stainless frets. If you have nickel frets, they are going to wear out faster. Am I wrong on that?
Ian is a simply a super bad ass mofo bass player extraordinaire, aside from his wonderful personality.
Ian, that first groove was NASTY
Came here for bass string suggestions… then noticed you were wearing The Midnight shirt and instantly subscribed.
I'm glad to see Ian get some other deals!
LaBella made CARVIN's Strings and I used them exclusively for decades.
What’s the song he played for the first string?
Ian's genuine love for the product and the music is infectious
How is the tension for the flatwounds?
The Super Bright Nickels sound delicious like UGHHHH
"GAUNK." That's G-A-U-N-K, not to be confused with "gonk" which is the main ingredient in canned cat food.
What a trash video. Switching the playing style, songs, and BASSES that are used… how can you even compare anything like this.
This ad worked ????. I just ordered a set of super brights for my medium scale Warwick.
I've never tried Dunlop but after this i might have to try some Nickel Bright strings next, now my son and I are Dunlop pick players and have been for years ????
The very problem from the beginning is when you guys start out with a very deep loose kick bass track. It ruins the opportunity to hear the string's potential. I thank you very much and don't mean to sound ungrateful, but this is the honest truth. But once you got raw, you convinced me of Dunlop. So good job!
Brother – you are incredible. Your playing and enthusiasm are so wonderful.
just like other strings in fact
What, no rotosound? Ohhh yesss, you would have had to buy those. It's easy to say how great the free stuff you receive is.
Dean Markley “BLUE STEEL”
Fuck yeah bro
This is just qn ad for dunlop
Undermining the competors is childish. Lost my respect
I lost it when you spun that stainless package in your hand hahahaha
Are these the same people that make tyres?
Ernie ball cobalt 45 105 for my girls. P, j and ricky.
Dunlop stainless 50/55-110 on mt Schecter Hellraiser for years now. Love ‘em! Crisp, clear, crunchy or they warm up nicely when needed.
Ian is a good guy. He makes me love the bass and all the geekyness that comes with it even more LOL
Different folk different stroke, and you didn't tell us what strings are on it (the same Dunlop flats?) but for me, the Mustang bass with old flats is the sound
Background music with the Bass name ?
Wish they made more 6 string sets! I’d love to try those super bright nickel or the Marcus Miller. Those hybrids seem pretty tasty too.
They are all good
