When you get a new guitar, or if you’re a beginner guitar player, it’s very important to know about all the different electronics and parts of the instrument. In this video, we’ll talk about the electronics and the pickups.

Pickups are what pick up the sound on an electric guitar. There are a bunch of different types of pickups like single coil and humbucking pickups. Guitars also have pickup switches, that switch between the different pickups, as well as tone knobs, and volume knobs. Some guitars have switches that manipulate other parts of the tone as well.

Learn all about pickups, and more in this lesson.

  • at strats, in 2nd and 4th position, pickups are connected in oposition(not sure if i use correct word), so they can reduce noise. not sure if all strats, but all strats i hold had this configuration.

  • Just subbed and it’s been a looooong time since I’ve played. Just got the new Ibanez Gio series with the Peavey Vyper amp and I am soooo clueless now lol. I want that death metal ( think Ghost, Lordi, Black Sabbath on acid…lol). Plus my switch seems to have 5 settings(?). It’s not a knob but like a sliding…thing lololol…Jesus….. Oh the second guitar..the Strat. That is what I was talking about..the 5-way.

Also would like to know what you think about Edward brand guitars. I heard these and they blow our guitars out of the water. Think Visual Kei bands…only made in Japan. Hizuki has one that has been created by him and is about $1500 US. Japanese yen it’s like 145k.

  • I’m planning to build a single-pickup guitar. Like a guitar with only one pickup. I’m using a humbucker and I’m deciding whether to place it on the neck, middle, or bridge. I really love the warmer sound of the bridge but I have to ask you guys (in the comments) what you think about it. I play electric like an acoustic btw hahha
