the more I look into frfr speakers the more I wonder what they are for. Way too big and loud for home use, rehearsal rooms and live gigs have PA systems, so why do I need a 400w cab or whatever they are? For the stage and hearing yourself, there’s in ears or floor monitors, so no need for an onstage cab, and you can’t mic them up, so you’ll be going direct to the desk. If you do small solo shows, you probably already have your own pa rig, so again no need for a separate cab. If you are remotely serious about music, you’ll already had decent studio monitors for mixing, which should be frfr anyway. So what are they for?
I am disappointed they did not include the Line 6 Powercab's.
I really enjoy your comparison videos. They are always well done and informative. Just my opinion, but maybe consider using the big three guitars – Strat, Tele, and a Les Paul. Might seem boring, but would probably give more users a closer impression as to how these FRFR cabs will sound with their guitars. Using multiple modelers/profiles might help even more. Not a criticism, just a suggestion and something to consider.
Laney wins!!!
F yeah
so to my ears the Laney and Headrush were the best. Having said that, all crunch and heavily distorted sounds were horrible… so I reckon the patch were horrible and not the cabs.
No friedman or mission?
Josh Church: Hey guys thanx for the informative vid. Did I win a pedal? Sure could use it lol!!
31:44 Cablifier! That's what I'm gonna start calling Combo amps now: Cablifiers. ????????
The Laney DID in fact begin to distort in a horrible sounding way. BUT, I also agree it was the best one. Just don't crank it ALL the way up! I also really dig the high-freq knob. That's exactly what a modeler cab needs to sound more natural.
If Marshall ever made a FRFR that looks like a 4×12 I would be all over that!
This shootout is meaningless unless you actually also have a REAL version of whichever amp/cab model you have setup in your modeler side by side with the FRFR's so we can hear how close they get to the real deal… and you need to pick it up with multiple Mics with their various strengths of picking up and emphasizing different frequencies and dynamics in the spectrum. Blend them all together (after phase alignment), and let us hear the real deal compared to all other FRFR's.
I am going to go for the Fender…sounded the most "musical"
My brother hurt his tailbone playing basketball, Dr had to slide a finger in bro’s rectum to check the tailbone. The exam was called a ‘digital’. Perhaps this provides insight into the origins of Digital John. Or maybe it doesn’t. But maybe it does.
whhich one would be recommended as an entry-level, as if im buying one of these as my first ?
I own laney, headrush, line 6 all frfr. But after owning the fender fr10. Its sound 10x better than any of those. Super light and sounds much better and loud enough to catch with drums in live situation. Fender fr10 eq is very useful.
Laney is too boomy
Headrush itz too bassy and muddy
Line 6 is bad sounding with delay and reverb.
Fender gives you the sound you looking for. ????
Was looking forward to this comparison video and appreciate your efforts. CRUNCH tone was pretty high gain. Guess everything is relative and if metal is your largest demographic. I guess he did call it chuggy metal which seemed a more fitting label than crunch.
Would have loved to hear each of these on edge of breakup and a touch beyond
Laney wins it
Laney by far.
pretty sure that guitar was made for women. The only thing you're missing is a hellokitty or powerpuff girls sticker.
Doubling of watts is 3db increase.
Multiplying wattage by 10 is a 10db increase.
Confusing I know but true.
Wow, so in the short little side by side tone comparisons at the end of the video, to me the Positive Grid sounded the most like a real amp in the room. The others had that squashed, fizzy, heavily filtered sm57 sound…i realize this is probably exactly what the Cortex is modeling, but if I'm sticking a cab on stage it's because i want to hear the amp in the room sound up there, not the mic'd sound, so…
I realize that the Positive Grid was the only one that farted out at highest volumes. But if you get enough loudness for your needs out of the positive grid before it starts breaking apart then maybe you could save some dough.
headrush is the best
Modeller w the cab section off into return on an amp into a real cab > FRFR Cab by far imo.
I only play at home. So for a largish room, will I get a more guitar amp like sound from an FRFR compared to a pair of studio monitors? I don’t need volume a lot, but more interested in a sound that’s like a regular guitar amp.
And I can plug my Scarlett 2i2 into an FRFR, yes?
I’ve got a headhush and it is really amazing!!
