Rig Rundown – Tori Ruffin
Tori Ruffin—currently Morris Day and the Time’s right-hand man—has been laying down funky, danceable riffs for decades. He’s toured in Fishbone, worked alongside Prince, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Mick Jagger, Lenny Kravitz, Randy Jackson, and even was in the on-screen band Randy Watson & Sexual Chocolate from Coming to America. After recently releasing his own album—Freak Juice & Friends’ They Call Us Juice—Tori virtually welcome PG’s Chris Kies into Guitar House of Tulsa. In this Rig Rundown, he goes through his herd of Prince-influenced Schecter T-styles, details how he mixes American- and British-voiced heads, and shows off his Keeley-heavy pedalboard that brings the heavy and the psychedelic.
[Facing a mandatory shelter-in-place ordinance to limit the spread of COVID-19, PG enacted a hybrid approach to filming and producing Rig Rundowns. This is the 37th video in that format.

Hello Tori. I'm in Oklahoma City, when are you all coming here? What and where?
Great interview. What a great guy and great player! Talk about an outstanding resume… : ) Much respect, Mr. Ruffin. Peace.
As a lefty, I really REALLY appreciate when you feature lefty pros. It’s so motivating and helpful because the struggle for lefties is real.
That’s my uncle ????
Blue sparkle is cool. I'm a sucker for sparkly guitars
As a left handed player, I absolutely agree with this guy. Schecter is great for leftys. I play their basses, great quality instruments that don't cost an arm and a leg.
F this virtual shit
i've actually been curious about who was in the Randy Watson band for a few decades now
Great interview, Chris, and Tori, no matter what gear you own you are clearly channeling from your heart to your hands. Thanks for sharing your passion for music!
Freak Juice! Love it!
That double exposure during the wah demo was cool ????
2:53 Wow! Nice quilted top on that Schecter!
"I'm only….5,000 miles from Tulsa"…..!
I'm a couple of years older than Tori but I remember him as a little high school knucklehead that used to come over to jam with me after school let out. Glad to see he stuck with it and made a name for himself.
I need to check this man’s bands out. What a nice guy and totally dig his playing.
snoochie boochies
Great interview.
The guy interviewing didn't even know that Slash has a wah? (I believe that he has at least 2 or 3 models…) A bit surprising.
m/ Killer review. What an amazing guitar player!!
Just chiming in to say I really appreciate the audio and video quality on Tori's end. Well done.
