Today, I’m reviewing the brand-new Epiphone Les Paul Custom Widow – a Guitar Center exclusive in stunning Indigo Burst. I don’t usually get excited about Les Pauls… or Epiphones. But this one? It had me intrigued from the start.

The Epiphone Les Paul Custom Widow features a mahogany body with a flamed maple veneer top, a mahogany neck with a medium C profile and scarf joint, an ebony fretboard with 22 medium jumbo frets, ProBucker Custom humbuckers with CTS potentiometers and quick-connect wiring, a Graph Tech nut, Grover tuners, and a LockTone bridge, finished in an Indigo Burst and priced at $799.

  • Don’t know if it’s your audio output, I don’t think so. The fender amp sounds good. The NRG really doesn’t sound that good.

  • Gibson has been loosing quality for quite some time. Epiphone has been making a better guitar for years now. Unfortunately Epiphone are pushing their prices to lower range Gibson guitars. The problem is the quality generally remains static and the manufacturing costs have not risen on the made in China Epiphone guitars. Parent company Gibson is losing sales due to quality issues and their extremely overpriced higher end guitars. The average person cannot afford a Gibson so they bought Epiphone instead. Poor business practice. They are going to price themselves out of business.

  • What a nice review!! I just bought a Indigo Widow and I like the guitar very much. I think Epiphone came in at a great price for a guitar of this quality. They have really upped their game since 2020 when the Inspired by Gibson line came to be. I agree about the Pro buckers!! They can get a bit too dark and you can lose note definition. Personally I might go with a set of unpotted Burst bucker 2 & 3. I might be crazy, but I really like the "airy" tone you get with an unpotted pup!!! Please remember that the original PAF was an unpotted pick up back in the day. I really liked the tone when you switched to the Fender amp!! A bit of magic there to my old ears!! (I'll be 66 at the end of the month). Thank you for the "tip" about the bridge retaining wire rattle!! I'd bet that some of my other Epiphones have that going on!! Keep up the good work!!! Bryan

  • In 96 when Epiphone came out with the translucent series, I had four of them, Green, they were my stage/wrote back up Guitars to my Gibson Paul, stock pick ups on the Guitars were a bit hot, I changed the pots, that’s all those Guitars needed. They were really killer and I believe they were maybe $500 at the time of course brand new.

  • I’m seriously considering purchasing the red widow for live shows. I own 2 Gibson LPs and 1 Epiphone LP, so I understand the differences. I’ll end up replacing the pickups and even the wiring harness, most likely. So it will end up being well over $1000 when I’m done with it.

  • Bro… you just taught me how to fix my Epiphone Les Paul. I don’t have that same model, but I have that same buzz (6:17) that you found. Well, thanks for the killer review & thanks for the help with the fix on the buzz! Keep up the awesome work!

  • Love the color, sound is decent, but just out of my price range, unfortunately. But, I'm more of a Fender/Squire guy anyway. But not a bad looking, sounding guitar. Wish I could know how it feels to play. I played a Gibson guitar before, and the play was awful on it. But the one my buddy has, a Les Paul model, had a great play to it. The first Gibson I played, was a Angus Young type, (Can't remember the name of that guitar, lol) , but I couldn't get into that guitar, couldn't stay in tune for the life of me. So, I really wished I could get the feel on that Epiphone. ????

  • I recently traded in my Alpine White LP Custom for the Indigo Blue, Mine is absolutely stunning visually. It truly barks loud on the higher volume settings, i need to work with it a bit more on the lower volumes. 1st time on your channel and really enjoyed your take on it.

  • Why do they call it Indigo? That guitar is blue, not purple.
????Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo.

  • BRO there is NO lacquer on the back of the neck. It's a plastic finish. Oof Ack! Now stop playing Tonight there's gonna be a jailbreak. Friggin influencer wouldn't know a LP if it bit him on the butt like a Doberman. You said to be honest. hey' I've played guitar for a year! Now I'm an Influencer Authority promoting offshore copy garbage. Poor LP how they abuse his name. BRO put down the Samsung camera and learn some Howlin Wolf.

  • GOod God that guitar sounds terrible. Offshore crap plastic finish jungle wood. No bro, it does not "sound like a Les Paul." clueless influencer.

  • You should try the Epiphone Inspired by Gibson custom 1959 Les Paul. It has Gibson pick-ups, and it sounds great.

  • As always I enjoyed your review ????

But this has always been a pet peeve of mine, plastic-looking fret markers. I remember when Epiphone used real mother of pearl and or abalone. I can't understand why a guitar made in China, given the the imaginably cheaper production costs therein, can't be equipped with real pearl or abalone markers 🙁

AIO uses the good stuff and is less expensive while being made in in south korea. Not to mention a custom set up in shop in California.

I would love to see some investigative journalism on the cost per unit of the guitars or others in China.
If I had to bet, I would guess it costs Epiphone between $100 and $200 to produce that guitar

  • The color is too gaudy if you ask me. The best look for a Les Paul (or any guitar if you ask me) IS WOODY.
