  • “Around the World” by RHCP is another good one with a sick bass hook – albeit that was the 2nd half of 1999 when it was released

  • Great selections. I'm glad you have been elevating hilikeus to it's proper place in Incubus cannon. I hadn't heard it until the dirk interview. The only oldertracks I remembered were follow me to your leader and hot dancer. I also keep going back to the song version recently

  • You guys hit another one out of the park! Check out Mark White's funky thumping on all of the early Spin Doctors albums. He's usually buried in the mix, but that man is badass and has a groove all his own. Their first couple of albums are a funky 90s rock masterclass!

  • Scott and Ian, I love the interplay between you both breaking down the bass in different songs! However, the 90's being the greatest year for funk basslines? Pleeeeezzzz! The middle to late 70's and early 80's is where some of the baddest funk bass lines hit the airwaves…….

  • 311 is amazing. Glad something good came out of Omaha! A a Nebraskan it makes my heart proud when 311 gets the recognition they deserve!

  • When I see the man on the right enjoying himself like a little child who got the best, most desired toy, feeling that his dream has come true, I realized what a wonderful gift the passion for music is. The greatest authentic joy… Something beautiful. Moments like these make life worth living and having a passion for. -30.49. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DleYU9sezQ

  • So happy i found this. I listen to rock/indie/punk mostly and a wide array of more electronic stuff but I've really wanted to learn some funk. There are some amazing tunes here and they're gonna kick my ass! (Of course I was already a huge Primus fan ????)

  • Very late to the comments and not sure if anyone has mentioned this but Sonny T who played on Sexy MF plays bass effectively upside down. Perhaps this has an influence on how he plays and approaches bass lines.

BTW, there’s a ridiculous performance of Sonny playing with Cory Wong and Victor Wooten on stage doing a rendition of ‘Dean Town’!

  • Have you guys ever checked out Kim Clarke form Defunkt? I think that you would enjoy her bass lines from the album " In America". The Track 'Change' is a good place to start.

  • I can slap okay but to slap and pop is hard for me somehow. The guy on Prince's album sounds like he's using a pick.
