Sire Z3: A Bass We Waited Too Long For!

Sometimes, the best things take their time to arrive. The Sire Z3 proves that a little patience can lead to greatness.

The signal chain is plugged direct from an Ampeg RB112 onto a Universal Audio Volt 276 in Logic Pro X. Using no plug-ins and a teeny bit of compression from the Volt 276 in play-throughs.

Strings used in this demonstration:

  • So It was brought to my attention that I messed up on my measurements of the string spacing. The correct spacing is 19mm. Thank you and apologies!

  • just another question, ho did you solved the issue @2:34 where is visible the broken wooden part where the circuit cover should be screwed? i'have the same issue even if less damaged, but enough to avoid the screw from catching . thanks in advance for your suggestion

  • The Z3 looks and sounds great but I really want a 3+1 headstock. Is that something I should get over or bite the bullet and either pay the extra for a Ray34 or get a Ray4 and mod it?

  • Hi and thank for your review. can i ask you if on the bass used for the review the volume knob was misaligned compared to the others? i mean not at the same height. i tried two and on both the volume knob was at a greater distance compared to the others, nothing particularly serious but not beautiful to look at. for the rest the bass sounds great and has a beautiful fingerboard

  • Legitimately thinking about selling my stingray and buying one of these , love the stingray shape and sound but the one I have is so heavy on my shoulder especially compared to other stingrays I've held now I'm a decently young dude but I crashed a lot of cars so my rotator cuff isn't what it used to be

  • Hey Sonojono. I really like your stuff. Everything is absolutely the way it should be, pure honesty ????. I've got my share of basses as being a studio bassest for around 900 years has lead me around the world ????. It really is all about Love and the Groove ❀

  • In general I always like scooped mid and never boosted the mid.. but for this one, I like how the mid-boosted sound.

  • A nice bass but it doesn’t like a Stingray at all with his neck dive, a spaghetti pots/controls inside! I think is a 5 pcs body! But the pickup is a ceramic idea! No way! Come on save up for a really Stingray!!????

  • When ever I boost the bass Controll just a bit, my compressor is compleatly overwealmed. If I cut it, it sounds thin right aeay, so O never touch it

  • would you recommend the neotech regular strap for someone who has the bass quite high up?

  • "Egg shell Tort Guard", I don't believe it was the tortoises eggs they used to get the shells originally. Seems this rose colour is only Z3 with a Tortoise Shell coloured pickguard. It looks nice, but I'm tempted to get this and if I can't live with the colour do a rattle can job on it. Not that fussed with the other colour options and I have 2 white Sires already (PJ and a Strat). Although from pics and review it is starting o grow on me.

  • I think I see the Squire affinity active bass in the background. So when is that review coming? Hinit, hint. ????????

  • It has a lot of features for the money. Good value proposition. Sounds like you just change the tuners to lighter weight ones and you are done. A reasonable thing for this price point.

  • Why don't Sire put lightweight tuners on and delete the neck dive?,don't see why I should have to pay more to sort out their bad design.

  • strings thru body don't give more sustain. they give shitty string break angle for the thick ones πŸ˜‰

  • Honestly that pickup sounds pretty decent. Would be cool to be able to run the pickup in series or parallel.

  • ???? that mystic seafoam green Squier J. Cannot wait to hear you play it!!!!!

  • Is there a notch or something to feel the mid on the knobs?
I'm used to jazz bass knobs

  • Not a fan of the body (lower horn) but I might just cop one and see about making a Ray 4 into a 5 bolt and using the sire neck. Could also swap out the electronics ????

  • it may sound better than a Ball's family reserve but it's too ugly for me to buy it
