  • I only hear the amps faintly in the background, they don’t actually change the sound of my guitar…any thoughts?

  • For $0 there’s really nothing out there that competes IMO. It’s not perfect but for a free tool for musicians it’s actually really, really great.

  • Rhett does a great job of making videos about stuff that the rest of the industry has known about for years. ????

  • I LOVE GB but don't likie all that many of their stock sounds i think some of this has to do with your excellent playing?

  • I use GarageBand to make demos and it’s great! Sure, there’s better stuff out there. But it’s pretty amazing what you can do with an old iPhone or iPad.

  • I always find it funny how many hit songs have guitars that are recorded thru a UA Apollo twin with Logic/GarageBand amp and effects sims. One cool thing I think a lot of beginners don’t know, is you can actually open all your GarageBand sessions in logic, and most of the plugins are the same if not a slightly simplified version. So GarageBand is a great DAW to start with, because it also teaches you how to use most of the features of Logic when you want to upgrade.

  • I mean, i thought the tone in this video was dog water. I’m a diehard Logic stock advocate, but not for their amp sims. They have literally thousands of good, usable stock options from synths, to orchestral, to mix plug-ins, but these amp sims do not play or respond like a real amplifier at all.

In fact, I just went back to a project I did in 2019 with logic stock amps and the second I changed them out for Neural DSP’s Tone King amp, my mix went from sounding like an amateur mix to a properly tracked performance. All that harsh 700-2.5khz in Logic’s amps are unusable for my taste.

  • I feel that digital amps for quite a long time have really been able to nail edge of breakup tones, high level distortion is usually hit or miss though, and unlike real amps, there is a lot of adjustment that needs to be made before even turning a dial on a virtual amp, probably part of the reason why people prefer real amps, despite vsts sounding great.

  • It’s funny, coincidentally, a friend of mine and I were just messing around with some of my recording equipment recently and we opened GarageBand just to try some things out. We both felt the same way; some of the amps are pretty usable just the way they are.

  • So they've been getting better? I tried them years ago, and it may have been user error, but I couldn't get much joy. This^ sounds great.

  • Garage band sims are great, usually though I find interfaces don’t get the impedance quite right. So something feels off in the responsiveness to attack and volume.

Would love to see some interface shootouts with different sims to test that out.

  • Dont sleep on the Ableton one's either. They're older and less updated, but do the job if you need it. You can also pair them with many free amp and cab sims to extend the sound.

  • Apparently Tom Misch has used the Apple amp sims for a while on some of his stuff
