  • Dumb move from Gibson/Epiphone. You can easily get a second hand Les Paul Classic or Traditional for that price.

  • I'm pretty sure it's basswood. But won't subscribe. Way too many talking. Not enough playing.

  • I live close to the Mexico border. I always go for kisluxs , their quality is great. Some of them are made with leather and really hard to tell the difference from real or not. Either way, itâ s your choice. No judgement from me

  • Man do I ever want an Epiphone DC junior in TV yellow. They were so close with the DC special, but no, gimme the Johnny Thunders guitar please!

  • Just think: there are people who settle down to watch this each week because they buy a new guitar every seven days and want to be told which one to buy.

  • I have a PRS CE 24 already so I think I'll pass on the CE 22. I do like the 58/15 LT pickups but my 85/15s serve my needs perfectly.

  • epiphones over a £1000, if I can’t say nothing nice then…just send Andy love because he deserves it and it will keep the algorithm monster at bay ????????

  • How do you bypass the FX loop? I couldn't find any switches on the image. The only footswitch I saw said it was for Reverb. Cool breakdown!

  • I'm curious that if you played the Epiphone and the Gibson "Greeny", back to back "blindfolded", if you'd have noticed any difference. It's definitely a fact that our eyes make a huge difference in our thoughts. lol Just a thought. Peace, Andy.

  • Bass as in pass. Sounds just like the fish of the same name. Basswood.
Basswood is very special and unique in that it's not really a type of wood. Basswood comes from food processing plants that process fish. A good bit of processed bass scraps end up on the floor. Rather than let it go to waste, the bass scraps are gathered, treated in an adhesive solution and compressed into a usable form of wood. If you believe your guitar might be made of bass, try giving it the smell test. If it smells a bit fishy, that's because it really is – you have basswood.

  • Awesome as always!

The Ibanez is very much at the most incredibly right price. With your introduction, I thought we'd be talking about 7k-10k€. What a guitar!!!

The PRS seems more expensive than it should be.

I have a MIM Tele Acoustasonic from about a year ago. I love it and felt the price was spot on

  • There is nothing for me this week other than to mention that the first half of "basswood" should rhyme with "pass".

    Reply
  • According to both the American Heritage (US) and Cambridge University Press (UK) online dictionaries, the "bass" in "basswood" rhymes with "pass" (with your pronunciation, that is – "pass" is pronounced differently in RP) – or, probably more appropriately for this episode, your pronunciation of "gas". More of an "ass" than an "arse".
Anyway, glad I could google it for you ????

  • Brilliant inlays.. once they develop a bit of vert-de-gris they're going to be superb. ???? Stunning build, Paul.. just gorgeous. ????

  • I think you have to be certain that you want one of those epiphones because they’ll sell like an epiphone on the second hand market if you change your mind. No one will care that you paid 4 digits for it, they’ll say but it’s an epiphone. They might be excellent guitars but that doesn’t change the perception of the market. It’s just like if you buy the top of the range of a budget car brand, you won’t get your money back on all of the extras you paid for.

  • I guess my issue with the >$800 level “Inspired by Gibson Custom Shop” Epiphones is that they’re still made in China, albeit with some US parts, whereas the same price point or less gets you a legit North American made Fender.

Also, for anyone who’s looking for Squier-level Epiphones, check out the Tribute series. They’re all sub-$300.

  • Andy – Played the 64 SG. These are Epiphone Custom Shops. Its not the Epiphone you would think it should be. They really do feel like Gibsons with an Epiphone name on them. My wallet is screaming as we speak….

  • The one piece mahogany body that you mention in your pick of the week definitely looks like a 2 piece in the picture.

  • I agree with you that the 57 Goldtop is the best of the bunch, but haven’t played it or heard it and probably never will. I’m selling my Les Paul because I don’t like playing it. But, I’m still looking for a 70s solid walnut ‘The Paul’ with ebony fretboard. That was the perfect Les Paul for me. That little Victory amp looks enticing but way pricey. I’ll stick with my Boss Katana Gen3 MKII head. It’s beyond my skill level but still like it and hope to grow into it. More reviews please ????.

  • i was never a big fan of gibson or epiphone but the new Gibson studio is amazing i would prefer buying this over the higher priced epiphones

  • victory is using weird tubes in their amps, i thought el86 is type-o but they are using some very uncommon tubes in their v4 preamp pedals as well, i bought all of them, they sound amazing imo just the sheriff v1 pedal is not my cup of tea

  • The inspired by Gibson Epiphone series does capture some of the old style playing feel and sound, I found very useful and a good sound for live and recording.

  • I own one of the previous series of these inspired by Gibson Epiphone guitars, 60s standard LP and is a really good guitar to play, and sounds amazing. Got it for a good price
, love playing it!!! Definitely worth going and trying it!!! I played several 50s style Epiphone LP guitars and to me they sound thin and cheap, the 60s pickups are a bigger sound, warmer sound for what you pay.

  • Fender acoustasonic is something that makes not sense to me. I have heard people play this live and it really just sounds like an electric far more than any type of acoustic guitar…so it is pointless even if it is a lower price. Due to its pickup configuration it never sound like an electric guitar completely neither like an acoustic guitar completely just useless other sound than is a mystery why it wa even inveted sold or even liked by anyone????!!!!!
