  • Thanks for your amazing vids Rhett! Have you had a chance to try a Tone King Gremlin? And if so which would you choose if you could only afford one? Thanks for the great content!

  • What about small amps in a live setting ? I don't drive, I get around on mass transit. If I was to play a club I'd want to walk in there with a small amp and a mic. What's the ying and yang of that set up ?

  • Is there a solid choice for a low-wattage tube amp that also has tremolo and spring reverb? Thanks for the video! Need something I can play blues & jazz guitar on as well as plug a Rhodes into for bedroom-level practice and home recording. Been struggling for a while to find something that suites my specific needs!

  • I bought the 20 (drops lower), and replaced the fan with a silent one. Now it's the perfect bedroom & jam amp.

  • I recently bought a 5 watt amp with only gain, tone and volume. When I play direct, the simple controls really force me to hone my technique.

  • Pricewise, there are many great amps for near $300 that are much better. Monoprice (also sold by Harley Benton) 15 watt and the amazing Spark 2. I still have my first amp, a 63 Super reverb, which is still great but very heavy to move around. I sold my Marshall 50 w with a 4 12 cab years ago to go to Jamaica… never liked that amp.

  • i about a week ago bought a DSL1 CR, and i play in the 0.1 watt mode about 99% of the time and it's perfectly loud enough. i live in a house with other people, so it's so nice that it's quiet and i can achieve those gain heavy sounds that Marshall's do so well at incredibly low volumes. you don't need a big amp at all.

  • Too bad these Falcon amps are a rip-off in terms of internals… You can get a lot better for the price

  • I went to an outdoor concert once that was so loud if I tried to record anything they played on my phone from almost a 100 feet away what it picked up was total distortion. I hadn't heard anything that loud since I did a jam session back in the 70s where everyone was trying to outdo each other and my ears rang for almost 4 days afterwards. I made my way close to the stage and the guitar play was using a 25 watt Fender Mustang and the volume on the stage was not loud at all. I blame the sound man for screwing up their sound. For some reason he thought it was a good idea to have the music at an ear splitting level. The funny part was massive set of speakers they used to drive the music was offset by a pair of speakers identical to what I have at home to carry all of the vocals.
Now I am using a Boss Cube to play at my church where they don't need volume so much and I use it's line out feature to plug into their PA so they have a direct connect to my amp so what they broadcast online sounds exactly as the congregation hears. Besides, back in the 70s the Peavey speaker cabinet I used weighed 163 pounds plus a 40 pound head and now that I am 70 I really like that my Cube only weighs 4 pounds.I am looking into getting another small amp to my wife's dismay…

  • Sorry, but I have to say that not popping the back off to show the circuit board CRAP is misleading your customers for such a pricy amp. In fact, it is REDICULOUS! Save your money peeps!

  • 5-10watt tube amps have been used to record so many famous recognizable guitar riffs over the decades, that it would be impossible to list them all.

  • I use 2 Laney's Cub 10 (the old ones) as a stereo rig. Using in-ears, they sound huge mic'ed.

  • You know Rhett, you are absolutely right. I love my little 15 W MT15 and it’s all I need, but you know what I like even more that I absolutely do not need because I don’t play in the band

My orange rockerverb 100 MK III playing through a four by 12 loaded with two DV 77s and two vintage 30s nothing punches you in the face and chest like that thing .Rock on brother????

  • Show people the inside, look at the preamp tubes, almost bought a Falcon, until I saw the guts, no thanks, junk amp not made to last, but it will sound great until the board becomes conductive, no way is it worth over a grand.

  • The price is ridiculous and certainly out of most musicians reach. I heard something that would equal that for 200 bucks and it was a tube amp.

  • Hey Rhett, would you consider doing an in-depth exploration of your exploding low watt amp theory? It would be great to see a comparison of various models across different price ranges. Keep up the great work!

  • I have a 6 watt VHT, running through a 2×12 cab. As much as I love the tone and sound of a tube amp, I still can't play it at night. I have resorted to plug ins. Not the same, but it keeps everyone in the house happy.

  • Thanks, great info about mic placement. Also, I played the Gibson 5 W the other day and it’s a monster.. definitely my next amp…

  • i am late to the show replying with this but FIFTEEN HUNDRED BUCKS??!!? JFC. for that price tag i can buy a new orange rocker 32 two-channel STEREO tube amp. plays 15 (7.5 x 7.5) and 30 (15 x 15) watts and did i say stereo? S T E R E O . . . . now that's a freaking deal and i'd have enough left over to get a gretsch G2210 streamliner junior jet to blast through it. S T E R E O . . . .

  • Amp sounds great. Strong small amp points too. I will still choose the Boogie Caly 20w. It can do a gig if needed. It will also have a higher resale value. Same price.

  • Oh Rhett – “old design with modern touches” = cheap Asian pc board at a boutique price. Look inside these things. Hang onto your vintage.

  • I would wager that the vast majority of guitar players don't gig. The biggest mistake you can make (imo) is trying to get gear the "pro's who gig" use when you simply are not going to use the gear as they are. Lower watt amps are great and will actually give you the sound you WANT at home or smaller settings without fighting them or not using them to their capabilities. And yes, they are STILL LOUD in most smaller situations…. which is where MOST of us actually play. Cheers!
