This is Part 1 of my series on the Aeolian Mode. This mode, or scale, is highly melodic and is used in a variety of musical styles. It is typically the ‘next step” in terms of melodic development for the budding electric guitar soloist once he/she masters the pentatonic scale.
Its diatonic structure is based upon chord progressions that are the basis of Western Music. The mode is used in classical music, rock, latin, jazz, metal, pop, country, and folk. It can be manipulated to produced beautiful, soaring melodies using any tonal creation imaginable.
In the following three-part series I will go into more depth in the use and exploration of this very exciting scale.
