Masterworks series guitars are Alvarez’s top of the line models, designed and created by their master luthiers, using only the highest quality components and all solid tone woods, there’s not a laminate in sight here. Add to this some innovative design features and expert workmanship, developed throughout Alvarez’s 50 plus years of building guitars, and you’ve got a range of acoustics that really are premium quality, but at a much more affordable price point than you might expect considering all they’ve got to offer.
This Masterworks MDA66CESHB is a dreadnought style electro acoustic with a cutaway body design. The top, back and sides are all made from solid African Mahogany and it utilises Alvarez’s FST2M forward shifted scalloped X bracing system, allowing a larger area of the top to resonate more freely. All of this combines to deliver a really rich, vibrant and resonant tone with plenty of volume, perfect for both strumming and finger picking styles alike.
The guitar’s one piece mahogany neck has a really comfortable profile, and it’s finished in a 50/50 semi gloss, making it feel very smooth and effortless to play. The neck’s fitted with a Pau ferro fingerboard which in turn is fitted with 21 frets and discreet but stylish abalone and mother of pearl inlays, and of course the cutaway in the body allows for much easier access to the higher frets.
To enhance tone and playability, a slightly more angled headstock and bi-level bridge have been designed to increases the break angle of the strings over the real bone nut and saddle, and this increases the string tension, improving the feel and response of the strings and maximising sustain and string vibration transfer.
The guitar itself looks absolutely stunning with it’s gloss shadow burst finish, complimented by the Acacia binding, abalone purfling and premium quality gold tuners with ebony buttons, and being an electro acoustic, it’s fitted with a top quality LR Baggs Stagepro EQ, and an under the saddle element piezo pickup, meaning that the guitar will sound just as good on stage as it does at home or in the studio.

Nice sounding guitar. Unfortunately mahogany tops aren’t suitable for any sort of heavy strumming or flat picking, they breakup and distort too easily and don’t generate much bottom end. This would work for light strumming and picking in a studio setting, providing a pretty well balanced tone.
I bought this over a year ago after watching this video and the best guitar I have ever owned! Great tone, looks beautiful, sounds great plugged in!
Excellent demo, thanks!
Why did they add a cutaway when they added the electronics? Guess they figure if I wanna plug it in I'm gonna need the extra frets for all the lettuce I'm shredding?
Alvarez all real wood, not laminates like comparable Martins and thats why for the money Alvarez wins.
GOD! I HATE THIS GUY'S PLAYING… HE CAN'T PLAY FOR SHIT!! ALL THE GUITARS SOUND THE SAME WHEN HE TOUCHES THEM!!!!!!
Huge fan of Alvarez! I have an AD70SC which I have had for almost 15 years now. It was never the most expensive guitar but at the time was a huge purchase for me. I remember picking it up and playing it for the first time and it just blew everything else at that price point out of the water, and (I thought) sounded better than guitars that cost twice as much.
Bought one. Having played both Taylor and Martin acoustics in my 40 plus years of playing. The line of Alvarez acoustics with solid top back and side tone woods are the best bang for your buck you can get. And can stand their ground with all but the very top of the line Taylor and Martin acoustics. Very well made beautiful high gloss finish, LR Baggs StagePro EQ preamp. Beautiful tones both plugged in and unplugged. Love it.
Really beautiful sounding 6! Just put a ad6012chesb on layaway. A Alvarez 12 string for only 500 US dollars. Man I absolutely loved it. I already have a ad60amb. I’ve had it for 10 years and I love it.
UPDATE! Got my 12 string and I’m absolutely in love. Alvarez is by far my favorite brand. So many people compliment the sound of my 12
