✅ Action (string height): Keep it medium to low. Lower action facilitates faster and more precise slaps and pops, enhancing playability and comfort. You can adjust the action by properly setting the truss rod (neck relief) and adjusting string height at the bridge.

✅ Strings: Always use fresh or new strings for slap bass. Brightness and clarity dramatically improve your sound, making your slap lines punchy and articulate. String gauge matters too: lighter gauges like .040 (used by Victor Wooten) offer easier playability and speed, while slightly heavier gauges like .045 (favored by Marcus Miller) provide a fatter, more powerful slap tone. Nickel and stainless steel strings are the top choices for slap bass.
