Dialing In A Marshall Plexi – Marshall Studio Vintage SV20

In this video, I demonstrate how I dial in guitar tones with a Marshall Plexi Style guitar amp.
In true plexi style, the SV20H features four separate guitar inputs, two for each channel. This gives you the ability to choose between the brightness of the high treble channel, the roundness of the normal channel, or blend between the two with a patch cable. Add in the EQ and presence controls and you can take your sound from warm saturated blues to aggressive biting leads. The power reduction feature also makes it versatile enough for studio recording and home practice. The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

  • Hi Paul, thank you for this videos. How do you manage to get a volume boost with de sv20h? When a put a volume pedal in the FX loop the sv20h does not get any louder. It seems that the powervalves works at maximum by the 3 or 4 on the volume pot. Beside from that point it only just compress and I cannot get any louder. Do you have a clue on that?

  • I've found the Marshall sound the hardest to emulate using the Boss IR-200. Very inspiring tones there mate????

  • I bought simply because of your tone! I then remembered tone comes from the player just as much as the amp! That said I got it dialed in pretty great! Totally dig your vids; my credit card doesn’t tho lol!

  • Hi, I get a much harsher sound when I record mine with the same settings. What speaker and mic are you using?

  • Hi Paul, Great Marshall Plexi tone with your guitars! I would like to ask, what pick ups are in your Strat? The comination sounds perfect with the amp.

  • I love this amp however it is a beast even on the 5 W mode. I truly can hardly tell the difference. I also have the silver jubilee with the master volume. It certainly makes it much more tamed or tame all lol but when you get this cranked through an oversize 212 it really rocks and sounds fantastic. Everything turned to 10 bought a sheriff 22 from victory used just to use the vintage plexi channel much more controllable and there are certainly other options out there. That was just my route to go, but I do love this head 2:36

  • Marshall cleans are often overlooked, this little beast has some glorious bell like cleans, from srv to Frusciante cleans.

  • Hi friend, I have a plexi SV20H, but when I turn on delay and reverb in the send and return, the sound of these effects is distorted, how do you use these effects in the head loop?
