  • Great amp sounds good .but the gain sounds fake like SS i think because they use a SS gain stage..still sounds good tho

  • Blackstar is known for having negligible customer service, and that's what counts. It doesn't matter if someone says they had a good product for a hundred years, and it sounds great. It's how they treat their customers. You never think it's going to be you who has the problems, until it is. And when you come to Blackstar with issues, even under warranty, they give little to no service.

  • You summed up life when you said you always thought you needed 100 watt amp ha ha ha. Spot on, 40 is plenty. Great Vid.

  • Great amps. I've tried them many times. They are VERY loud, so thank God you can use the 4 watt mode.

  • David, I've been watching your videos for years. I have a question, I've seen videos with this exact amp from Blackstar and when I see videos that are professionally make like yours here, the amp sounds great. However, I've also seen videos with this same amp and when they turn the gain up the amp has all kinds of unwanted squealing feedback. So I guess I have to ask, are you using a noise gate thru the Effects Loop?

  • I've had one of these for about 6 months now and really like it – I know some people have had reliability issues so I can only hope mine doesn't break down. Not a technician but (with the valve/transistor debate) I have read a lot and it seems to be a 'hybrid' as I understand it. Not a Blackstar 'fanboy' – my favourite amps are Boogies – but for the price I feel these are a great sounding amp that feels good to play and has really useful recording options.

  • The only trouble, with these great sounding amps, is the repair once out of warranty. I got rid of mine as an open back speaker cab. Don't buy used.

  • Why not play the same piece when comparing the voicings? That would provide a much more accurate representation of the difference between them. But maybe that's why you didn't do it.

  • I say this as an HT 5 owner but it's really important not to romanticize the ISF feature. It's just a mid shift. Some of the most British tones you can get are achieved with the ISF around 4 and the mids around 10, bass around 1, treble to taste.

But I do really like how your amp has a usable clean channel.

  • I have a mk1, and absolutely love it. It's by far the most versatile amp I've ever used.

  • I just bought me one. Really like the options offered on this amplifier. I play clean most of the time. I play mainly electric 12 string guitars, although I do have a strat to jam with!!!

  • I picked one up a few months ago, I just got around to seriously messing with it last week. It came with the two button footswitch, and I wasn't that impressed with the amp at that point, but I threw a hail mary and got the 5 button footswitch. Made a world of difference. I've only been able to play it on the 4 watt setting (apartment living), I can tell it's going to absolutely sing when I get to open it up on the 40 watt setting. Building a pedal board right now, Strymon DIG digital delay, first run Bad Horsie wah, Friedman BE-OD Deluxe, Digitech Whammy, Aphex Aural Exciter, and the Blackstar footswitch, just those so far. I still have plenty of room for more as I go along. I'm really happy with this amp.

  • I have mark 1 of this Amp. Still love the cleans and overdrive. It's a very underrated Amp. But if anyone gives it enough time they will find there sound. This could take hours. I have not played the mark 2 . Touch wood I have had it 9 years and never had a problem.

  • You sell hardware now ? Last video I've seen it was a guitar, now that …. Ok…

  • I have the HT5R, which has the same features as this one (except for the master knob, and wattage of course). And I can't find ANYTHING wrong with it.. When I first had my eyes on it, I was so skeptical thinking that there MUST be some catch to it cause it's so damn perfect and versatile, and affordable (compared to other tube amps).. I guess it's cause they're made in China? Idk… Even if Blackstar raised the prices of their amps 1.5x more, they'd still be worth it

  • Wait till you have to repair it in a year. Hard to work on and Blackstar dont offer schematics… It sounds good at the price till it breaks.

  • I like the HT40 and 60. I changed the 70/eighty speaker to a Vintage 30 and it opens even more. I would love to try a Cream Back and see what happens.

  • I have the Mk1 and it has been the amp that i go back to every time. The OD for me sings really well and plays along well with my guitars.
