  • Another great video Andre Fludd! I would love to see you compare the PRS SE Santana vs. 594 McCarty vs. PRS Studio; as a long term comparison in tonality and playability.

  • The reality is, I’ve had a LOT of PRS guitars and I’ve kept none of them. They’re fine. And I hate to use this argument because I feel it’s constantly stated and truthfully just worn out, but the reality is I’ve never played one that’s “inspiring”.

That said, I had a core Special so I’ll likely pick one of these up to see how it compares. I did love the pickup configuration on that guitar!

  • Middle pickup by itself has a nice 'slide guitar' sound; I bet it would sound just ideal with a finger slide.

  • I just received my S2Special and this is an amazing guitar. Every bit good as a core for studio and gigging and just about anything. I prefer the carve over the core for sure and I don’t feel as pretentious when I take it out of the house.

  • A word on the not often used Middle pickup on a 3 pickup guitar:

I find that, if set up properly, the middle pickup can approximate the In Between setting on, say, a Tele or a Les Paul. I recommend guitarists play with that middle pickup, it is IMO a secret weapon of guitars with 3 pickups.

  • One thing that bugs me about the S2 line, I had a custom 22 for a bit, is that they don't recess the cavity access in the back. They make it over the top like Fender does the Strat cavity. For that kind of money, it should be recessed like a Gibson, IMHO. But it does sound great…especially in your hands!!! My dad would have loved your rendering of Fly Me to the Moon.

  • Really nice video. I learned a lot. I will check out your other videos and lessons. Saw the Guitar Support cushion your using. I may get one. I have to play with a strap when sitting down to elevate the guitar, but this may be an alternative. Nothing wrong with using a strap, but am wondering if the cushion will be more comfortable. Comments welcome..

  • Long time fan of the channel and metal guy here – what was the name of that piece you played at 9:07? It was beautiful and I’d like to learn it. Great video as always – you’ve become my go-to for accurate, honest reviews of gear on here.

  • Andre, always love you videos, but I would add one thing regarding your comment about Les Pauls being rather dark and fat in tone. If you stick some old PAF or T-Top humbuckers (or some repros) in a Les Paul, you can get a very balanced tone. I find it's only when you stick more modern higher-output humbuckers in a Les Paul (or buy a more modern Les Paul with modern Gibson pickups) that they start to get into that dark and fat territory you're correctly describing.

  • Great video and non-standard demonstration of this PRS beastie.

I have to admit that the more recent 2024 SE Mark Holcomb SVN (7-string) is my favorite of the PRS guitars, once the tuning machines are replaced with locking tuning machines and strap buttons replaced with Schaeller/Fender StrapLocks. There is something to be said about more mid pickups with flatter sound characteristics.

For my current favorite middle pickup instrument, it is the Firefly clone of a Gibson Switchmaster on a Gretsch hollow body (there is a reinforcement post under the bridge between the front and back of the guitar). The bridge itself is floating and not pinned like other Gretsches. The neck is very chunky and reminds me more of a 50's style than anything else.
The stainless steel frets add treble to what would otherwise be a warm and dark sounding guitar, while the separate pickup controls allow the player to dial in their preferred tones easily. Adding a Vibramate, locking tuners, and straplocks really help bring the most out of this beastie. The pickups themselves could be clones of what is found in the Ibanez AG or AF lines. This line, the FF38 and Pegasus lines, are all great jazz guitars. I would also recommend Firefly's Les Paul baritone, too.

  • This video legitimately has me considering selling a couple guitars, just so I can buy.

  • The pickup rings are too outlandishly bright. Satin black would make them vanish so the wood detail can be better appreciated.

  • Thanks for the vid. PRS can do no wrong. I bought a used discontinued SE H/S/S guitar and it plays like a dream.
