  • I saw you play a small show in Wheatley, Ontario a few years back. From your playing to your total control of the crowd, it was eye opening. Glad to see your channel is picking up.

  • John, I bought a Yairi Shelly SYM-CR from a Tokyo guitar shop in 2009 when I was working in Japan. It blew my mind as soon as I held it in my hands and just like this video, I have been very happy, delirious infact at the sound quality of my guitar. A wonderful instrument and I was extremely happy to trade in my Fender semi-acoustic in part exchange which made the deal that much more affordable.

  • I have a DY 77 dated 25/01/78. It posessed me like no other. Improved my playing too. Can't seem to get it back in the case. Magic spell probably!

  • I've had 4 yairis in my life. 3 DY74C'S, AN '85,'78, and now one from the 90's. I also had the model Monte Montgomery plays. Not his signature one, but the older one before they made it his signature model. But the sound of it wasn't really something that worked for me so i sold it to a friend who loves it. I have play a Dy74c for 20 years now and have had the heartbreak of losing 2 of them. Long story that hurts too much to talk about. BUT, as far as I'm concerned, the dy74c is as good as any guitar that is out there!!! And ive played it next to $5,000 J200's, D28's, Collins', Laravee's, etc., and it is 2nd to none. Even the people with those billion dollar guitars played it and everytime they don't want to give it back!!! It's the most versatile guitar ive ever touched and Alarez's bridge pickup with the 500A preamp is amazing. I always see people playing and when plugged in, the sound doesn't sound like the guitar unplugged. The dy74c sounds exactly the same plugged in as it does unplugged. Yairis are hands down the best guitars you can buy for the money. And if you are into Yairis, i highly suggest finding a dy74c with the Series 500A preamp because they are absolutely amazing. The first one i had i got for $600('85) in 2003, he '78 i got for $650 in 2019, and the one i have now, from the early 90's I got for $1000 a year ago. I got from the original owner and it is like new. They were/are all amazing.

  • Thanks for this. I owned and played two different classical Alvarez by Kazuo Yairi guitars n the 70’s, also a dreadnought. Both were from St. Louis Supply in STL. They were quite good instruments. Beautiful sound, playable.

  • I recently purchased a Martin D-18 and am loving but also have a closet full of Yairis. I’d be interested in a side-by-side comparison of the two models and may even have buyer’s remorse as a result but I also noticed that the asking price for this Yairi is also $500-$600 more than the asking price of my D-18! So much for Yairis being the “Poor Man’s Martin!”

  • Even the "budget" model, the MD60 is extremely good, plays well above its price point.

  • Hi JP. I’m not a bluegrass player but folk, pop etc. Playing for 50 years (professionally). Just got an Alvarez Yairi WY1SB 5 years ago. It’s all I play now! My Gibson Blue Ridge Custom (1973) & my Tama (1975) collect dust. Thanks for your videos & greetings from Alberta Canada!

  • Thank you for your instructive videos, the history of Yairi you told us is really fascinating. The guitar itself looks and sound astonishing!

  • John, because of you video, I wound up getting this guitar. It's marked '2018'. Can you tell me what the 1st year of production was?

  • I wonder DYM60HD guitars were sold to people who watched this video. I sit here right now playing my Honduran Yairi & I can't help think I never would have heard about it if I didn't watch this video. Thank you JP for opening my mind to the idea of this wonderful guitar. I have talked to dozens of people who bought the DYM60HD because they watched this video. Thank you for showing what has become my favorite guitar in the world.

  • I had a less expensive AY and I remember how good it sounded. That YM60 is just a work of art. At about 3,300 USD new I don't know if there's a better value. Truly beautiful sounding guitar.

  • The music store I hung out as a kid was a major distributor of SLM guitars so I got quite a bit of exposure to Alvarez (and Electra) guitars which has somewhat stuck with me through the years. I was told that Martins were tempermental and hard to maintain having no truss rod and I was not impressed with the Norlin era Gibsons during that time (1970s) except for a "Heritage" model they had in the shop (I liked that one). For me, Alvarez was king! Bought an Alvarez Artist 12-string in High School with money from part-time jobs and got my first Yairi (a DY-45) in 1986 when I was in the Navy. Got a DY-71 Koa Graphite off E-Bay and for my 50th birthday, I treated myself to a DYM-95C Masterworks which now needs a fret job because I have played it so much! Still have the other two Yairis as well.

  • This video encouraged me to take a look at Yaris. A gentleman in a neighboring city decided to sell his and I was absolutely honored to buy it from him. It's a model from 94 and absolutely blows my mind. God bless you and your enthusiasm for great instruments.

  • J.P., one gets tired of trying to find these Yairi guitars It's like they ship them one at a time.. You can't even find a list of dealers so you are force to Sweetwaer are another usual suspects to be told we might have one in a couple of months. Are they all being shipped to Europe?

  • I received a K. Yairi model V100 for my birthday back in 1968. Beautiful nylon string classical guitar. Still own it and play it. Learned all the well known classical concert pieces on it. Anybody know what the V100 means?
