If there’s one bass lesson that bassists simply must know it’s knowing how to understand which scales should be played over which chord.
Once you understand this, then all the cool things you aspire to do like improvising, playing walking bass, great bass fills and even writing your own music become ten times easier!

What a fantastic video have a good day also I like bass honestly
Is that really true? If you're playing over a D_minor chord, yeah sure play the D_minor scale. But if you play the D_lydian scale, wouldn't you be playing out of key from everyone else?
Pat Benatar had to wait until 2022. It's a crime that Iron Maiden isn't in either.
Very good analogy, helped me to think about applying scales properly, thank you!
I didn't find this "lesson" helpful in the slightest. It seems like all you're suggesting is to practice scales. Then when you demonstrated the scales, you did so at lightning speed. You did not explain the difference between the scales you used, or how to turn those scales into actual music or fills.
is the key of each of these always based on the first note in the scale?
Not simple!
I dont know what lidian or dorian or the difference between major and minor.
I’d love to understand what you are saying.
Bro!!! Powerful!!
Too much waffle.????
All correct information EXCEPT, IMHO, playing scales is no more music than reciting the alphabet is literature. How one APPLIES scales, moving, rearranging the notes therein, is what makes music….
Up next is a cylinder. Can you guess which spot that goes in? That's right, that goes into square hole. ????
Great video!! I like this approach. the bass playing starts to make a bit more sense, now!!
1:28 The reason I can't improvise is that I'm well aware that there are so many wrong notes but can't determine fast enough which are the wrong ones. The remedy (1:39) should be the same. The origin of my problem is that as a violin/viola player I never needed to learn chords and only two scales.
So I guess you've given me some serious homework – thanks!
Sidenote: several months ago you asked me about my goals. I'm happy to report that I reached them. My maximum speed (after an initial decline) is the same or even a bit faster (162 bpm on a good day) as before but my technique way better. As a result I now actually play music iso just notes, if you get my drift.
Any advice on getting good at grooving and improvising on Mexican and Latin/AfroCuban type music? (Merengue, Reggaeton, Salsa, etc)
Next lesson: helping bassists learn how to make good life choices.
