Good video. I want to make sure I understand this. I am knowledgeable about pedals and amps. But I want to start recording songs to computer, mainly for practice to hear myself in a mix. I am sick of using my iphone mic, which sounds bad and then I have all these useless files. I want recordings that I can store logically on my computer so I can keep track of stuff I am practicing. I can play bass and guitar, and have samplers and a keyboard if necessary. But I really hate being lost in menus and using a mouse. What I want to do is this: plug guitar into some analog pedals, including a drum pedal (Digitech SDRUM) and a looper pedal and a TC Infinite sampler. Can I run that into a Strymon Iridium (or any amp modeler) and then run that into an Apollo Solo then into a Mac Mini? I don't care if the ultimate song recording is just one track and unaffected by any UA effects in their Luna interface. Will that sound good or is there something I am missing? Will that just be a clean recording? WOuld you run the drum pedal direct into the Interface (not affected by simulated preamp of amp simulator)? just want to make sure I am thinking of the necessary pieces of equipment. The last thing I want to do is plug a guitar into an interface, then use plugins and have to do multiple tracks with a DAW. i would rather shoot myself. I just want to turn a few dials and just have it record. If anyone can help me understand this I would appreciate it. I am overwhelmed by all the DI's and amp sims etc. Thanks very much.
Hello. What if I want to use my real reverb pedal? Reverb always shoud be last in order. How i can use real reverb pedal after all VSTs???
I would have thought the chain would be first the dist pedal, then the supressor. But your saying supressor then dist pedal?
Ill have to try it and see the results
Sorry Pat – Jesus Wins.
Do I need the NS2 if I would use the IR2?
Is there a way to get some kind of pedal that can switch between clean amd distortion in the daw???
I'm currently going down this rabbit hole. For my playing, I like to slap the front end of a crunchy amp with an overdrive or boost. Although, in the digital Matrix? This is No Bueno. My solution? The EXH Operation Overlord Nano OD/Distortion. 3 toggle input level switch, 3 gain stage Jfet preamp, 3 band EQ, a dry signal blend, and an external foot switchable boost! All in a mini enclosure! Just set the interface level to zero, load up your fav amp sim, and boost away!
Who needs tubes!
Also works with my Orange OMEC and iPhone to front of house!
Cheers!!
How about if I just wanted to plug in a tuner?
Nice video! But one question: You have the Boss NS2 which has in/out/return/send. Why don't you use all 4 instead, as it's supposed to? Meaning you trigger the NS2 direct from guitar but the actual noise suppression happens after the distortion pedal?
Just curious, you might have a good reason…?
Appreciate the info on using pedals with an IR. I'm now using my pedalboard with STL Tones Nadir and some York Audio IR's. Sounds killer! Thanks, man! ????
You must use an amp software ? Are you sure you can’t just plug into and an instrument input ? Or use a DI box before the pedal ? Confusing for sure cause your software plexi already also has gain ….but that another issue . I just wanna hear all pedal ….what you’re saying about the amp software makes sense but just really curious about just a pedal and interface ….
I had severe trouble with noise when I plugged my Guitar into any PC interface (Focusrite solo, Tonex One etc) until I changed my mono guitar cable for a balanced stereo cable (two black rings on the Jack instead of the one on the Mono cable).
Completely eliminated any noise when using the Focusrite Solo, but unfortunately the balanced cable won't work with the 'Tonex One'. But I noticed if I only pushed the stereo cable into my Guitar halfway it worked though the 'Tonex One' – of course that isn't practical.
So, I've ordered a 6.35mm Jack Adaptor, Stereo Socket to Mono Plug on Amazon to see if maybe that will solve my noise problem and interface problem in one go!
you buffered the signal
Does the dry signal with the petal board work or do I need amp sims
for leveling i learned from Misha is if your interface only has lights palm mute and strike it as hard as you can and adjust the volume just before it turns orange! have it in the green butj before it turns orange
How much does it cost to download a decent DAW?
I do the same thing with my looper, out of it into my interface. Two questions: I noticed you went from the guitar into the noise suppressor first, then to the effects pedal – I would have thought the noise suppressor would have been after the effects pedal or is it to suppress the noise from the pickups? Secondly, I'm new to Impulse Response, does that simulate amp sounds?
I like that muffled screamer sound❤️???? great video
I have a boss me80 pedal… if I run it through an interface it sounds horrible… I found out I can connect it usb and record straight from there and it sounds clean as water… however for some reason I can make that work with logic pro and that frustrates me because I can do it in other DAWs
have the MOTU 828 and it shows two zero's, one at highest and one at lowest (moving its big knob at the right). Which zero are you referring to ?
Did you stack the last distortion pedal with the marshall IR?
Pat….your the answer to our prayers man….just straight up EASY.
Will come back for B vid…thanks for making it. OH yeah..and your chops are amazing man.
Subbed & liked.
In my pedal chain, I have four pedals. Noise gate, metalzone, chorus and reverb. So, in which order should I connect them? I also have one more question. Is the horizon device necessary, or are a virtual amp, my pedalboard that I've already mentioned and a virtual impulse loader all I need?
This was cool to watch!
Can I plug in a Multi-fx pedal (like my Zoom MS 50G) straight into my interface, and use the amps etc all inside the pedal so I dont have to fiddle with an Amp sim in my DAW?
So a question – my interface has +16dB at 0 gain, so it means I have to trim the signal by 16dB after the pedals somehow to make it sound correct?
Can I do the same with my Zoom G5n?
Guitar-G5N-Audio Interface-Mac
Hi
Have you ever connected something with high level- high gain like a DS2 or something similar?
I'm afraid that when I kick in my DS2 a focusrite scarlet solo would just clip instantly and I would have to dial the level on my ds2 so much it wouldn't sound great anymore
If I wanted to go into and interface and hear myself play through an amplifier at the same time could I use an ABY pedal at the end of my chain?
Thanks bro,
i had my best tone ever by connect my distortion pedal (metal zone) to Tonex plugin ????????
biggest problem is deep noise when dis. pedal is on… i can rid of the deep noisse by using softwares digital noise gate but it cut also some juice of distortion as well ????
if i connect a realy noise gate/suppressor as you do , does it make any different on this situation?
I loved the wink he gave as he said 'and even more' and then the way he threw the pedal boxes… subscribed!
Here I go hooking up gear & having a beer.
Thank you. I’ve been wanting to use my HM2 pedal( which understandably makes an absurd amount of noise) in my recordings!
So my noisy pedalboard (when playing into a daw) is caused by the guitar pickups?
did you upload already the part B ? i can't find it
Nice job explaining the setup. Very cool!
very valuable info thank you!
I found that the amp sims on both Amplitube and Guitar Rig for the most part are dull and lifeless no matter how many cabinets or combinations you might try. But when you plug an analog pedal in like a klon clone or a Wampler plexi or any number of different kinds, all of a sudden it all comes to life.
Yes I did get dostortion. But it's not very loud.
hi. My distortion pedal doesn't sound any louder than the clean. I'm using an I.R. package so maybe that's the problem. any sugguestions would be helpful. ty
I just learned that I need a noise suppressor.
You need to turn it up to almost clipping to get the full bit rate of the DAC. Watch the video Ghost Note Audio made titled "Ampsims and input gain – Please, stop the madness…" Dude is a DSP and hardware engineer and shows the science.
extra tip: If it hums, you might have too much voltage going into one of your pedals
Hello. Thank you very much for the video – you make us wiser. Please tell us in detail how to set up the amplification circuit when using Logic’s “native” guitar simulators.
Thanks wonderful job, god bless you for your effort
Awesome. Great job ????
Grat! Which software are u using? Thanks!!!
What about using a plugin overdrive before the amp sim? Is it not the same? I am old school so I am still learning about this modern stuff. 🙂 Thanks.
Is it at all beneficial to go pedals>>DI box>> amp sim ??
