  • This is exactly how I imagine every conversation with a Bass player to be. “They sounded revolutionary because of the OTHER PICKUP! GENIUS I SAY!”

  • I was fortunate to get to see them around twenty five times between 2005 and the year that he passed away, and I am happy to report that they were always excellent and absolutely rocked my proverbial socks off.

However my first experience with them is something that I will never forget about. When I was a fairly young kid l, this is at some point in the 90s, (somewhere in the region of the age of 7-9) and they were performing at the, now non existent, V Festival in Chelmsford. I was able to hear them perfectly from my bedroom with the window open in the small town I live in that's about ten miles away!

I didn't know who they were at first, but I was really enjoying it regardless. However once they started into Ace of Spades I instantly had recognition of the track due to my repeat viewing of the Young Ones episode they were in on VHS.l, and was jumping around my room like a madman! It would be around a decade till I was able to see them live in person, but a lifelong fan was made on that day.

RIP Lemmy, Fast Eddie and Philfy Animal Taylor. Thank you all for enriching my life and for changing my entire world (and yes, I know that it probably wasn't that line up when they performed then) one sunny afternoon all those years ago.

  • That blended tone is incredible. And hats off to Lemmy, a true legend of rock n roll.

  • I did this in a band I auditioned for. They had tried other bassists who were way more talented than I but none of them was quite right. Im a drummer and guitarist. I love victor wooten and steve bailey. But the main thing I learned was that the song comes first.

Overdrive Root notes and little flourish was all it took once I nailed that lemmy sound. Although I had not heard it from Lemmy but Kurt Ballou of Converge who was certainly influenced heavily by Lemmy.

  • Worst band I've ever seen live! Sloppy, out of time, not interested and the drummer had to keep running to the bathroom ????

  • Worth digging out the Classic Albums episode about Ace of Spades to hear parts of the tracks in isolation and interviews with all three of the classic line up.
From what I remember Eddie recreating solos note for note although I’d assumed they were improvised.
And yes Lemmy played guitar in bands for many years before playing bass in Hawkwind then Motörhead so a lot of his style came from that. His tracks with The Rockin’ Vickers probably on YouTube.

  • I remember years ago-78?- an interview with their guitar tech who said Lemmy rolled all the bass off and sometimes he couldn’t tell if he was listening to him or Eddie.

  • If you love the sound of a bass, you will absolutely HATE a rickenbacker, but if you love the sound of a rickenbacker, nothing else will do.

  • That's one crazy bastard that will be missed. Next time you drink with Jack, raise a glass to the glorious dead!
