Thanks, Dave!
tasty playing and tone my friend!
@TheOmuur both chord tabs are correct, but different notes can be found on different parts of the fret board. The method David is using is a bar chord, whereas the X02120 is an open chord. You can mute the strings in the bar chord by muffling them with your pointer finger, ie touching the strings but not pushing them so they cannot vibrate and make sound.
This is one of the best lessons yet from nextlevelguitar. These lessons for intermediate players offered on youtube by nextlevelguitar are awesome. I think I fall in the same trap as a lot of intermediate guitarists. Intermediate guitarists often tend to hit a plateau and we don't quite know how to push our progress even further along. When we hit this plateau, we become less adventurous and we don't try new techniques. But these lessons give me motivation to try new things on the fretboard.
Hey David. One of the chords you said that you used is an Amaj7 which you said is 5X665X, but on a chord sheet that I have it says that Amaj7 is X02120. My first question is; why are these different. My second question is; what is your technique for muting these strings that are in the middle of this chord, 5X665X.
Great video David. I got a lot out of it.
Great lesson. This is actually the next step I've been looking for. Cheers Bro.

Finally! an intermediate lesson!
thank you david, great guitar lesson, i really loved it and have a much better understanding of the 7 stytle
Hi – the one scale I am plying is A major as I am emphasizing the A notes over certain chords – but when I emphasize and start on the E notes its E Mixolydian – if I was to start on and emphasize the F# notes it would be F# Aeolian or F# natural minor – A major is the same as F# minor – relative major and minor – all depends on starting and emphasis notes – I teach this in depth on the website at next level guitar dotcom – enjoy!

isnt that an a minor scale?

How do you find the motivation to keep on playing? I go through these spells where I just can't figure out how to improvise on something and I think my playing stinks…I know all players go through this but when you get to the point where you're a seasoned player (like you) do you still get in a slump or….
Hi – on a few of the licks I use hammer-ons and pull offs and some I alternate pick. I have developed my picking over many years using lots of finger exercises as on my video instructional website at next level guitar dotcom – check it out as there is a free three day all access pass on the home page and the finger and picking exercise are in the master classes intermediate section – enjoy and rock oN!
