One is yellowish and the other red ????
Old woody and reedy bass vs a newer bass. Both great, no worries for sure in a recording.
The first one sounds like a woody 2"x4" lumber should sound
like it should.
How much is the old one?
OG P behs is instant Beach Boys (Good Vibrations)
In the late 70's I had a bass that was the first year they changed the name to Telecaster. Played it through an Ampeg V-4B. Fantastic rumble machine. With round strings it was like the Ricki 4000.
I like the first dirty behs
So what is a P behs?
I have to say I like the modern Pbass sound much better it just had more mid and high definition
I have a fender custom shop 51 p bass
Piece of shit
Guitar Center shipped it to me
It was unplayable
I have 15 basses including a few squires
Which I enjoy
Many with flats
Second is so much brighter & very "electric" sounding, whereas the former has a real warmth that just sounds more "woody".
Beautiful ???? ????
one is a strat and the other is a tele. tele has a better, thicker neck, but the strat has the most perfect pickups(split coil) ever made for any bass….until the day dimarzio threw its hat into the ring. the most expensive EMG active pickups on the planet dont even come close to dimarzio passive splits. you're just plain old WRONG if you think otherwise. its not subjective, its fact.
Impossible to say which one I like better. I guess that means I need two P-basses?
If you look close enough, you can see that they sound similar but different.
I LOVE the look of early P-basses but the split pickup is the iconic sound.
One is a capital P the other a lower case p.
Great comparison. Who knows what the 51 sounded like in 1951 when the magnets were fresh and hot – it might have sounded more articulate, but still different from the modern split coil.
Both have great tone.
I love the tone.. bravo sir
The knobs are different
Beautiful ❤
I had a 1975 P bass stolen,,,I still miss that bass
one is in your left hand , and the other the right …Dip stick!?! lol
funky sound
The OG p bass has a sound that can not be replicated. Cool that you got to play that thing!
P basses are the most overrated basses ever. Why play a bass that has no growl. Just save up the extra money and get an mtd Kingston. They are better than anything that fender has put out.
Good review. The earlier bass had more low thump/punch. Sell me the earlier one.
Pee Behs
Dear Santa.
The difference is that the original had a slight forward bow in the neck, causing the action to be higher which made you play it a bit more aggressively, producing a more punchy tone. The 2nd bass (split-coil) had lower action and you played it with a lighter touch, producing a more subdued tone.
I can tell you one thing. I spent a ton of money on a 64 p bass pickup that is 11.6k ohms and slightly overwound. Nothing sounds better. No matter what p bass I put it in.
I would refit the first one with a second single coil pickup near the bridge, make the body a bit more assymetric and the neck thinner. 😀
2 wins
I think Hofner made a very similar bass not sure if it was a Hoffner galaxy ?
Jimi Hendrix used a galaxy lead guitar before he went on to the Fender Strat so I was wondering if the Hofner came out before the fender? the original Hofner bass sounded amazing, not that beatles thing
Split coil much better off course
Second done is superior.
Love them both, but no2 is THE bass sounds.
