  • Actually there's a strong argument that Epiphone became Guild, not Gibson.

A lot of those artisans built jazz guitars for the new Guild upstart company.

One of these days I hope you'll pick up a Guild D40 Traditional. Not sure why we never see a Guild on this channel, but Ren Ferguson tapped into the Guild legacy while making modern, lightweight builds.

Check out The Acoustic Shoppe if you can't see them here.

  • Really enjoy your channel, your an amazing artist. Question, I bought an Excellante from Sweatwater recently, it was a Dec. 2024 build from Indonesia. Hade high expectations but wow, glue on fret, imperfections on fretboard binding, back finish had spotting, and inside the bracing had a white material holding it together. All in all a real letdown. Honestly it looks like a cheap guitar. Did yours have any of this? Didn't have a QQ sticker on the back of the head stock? Almost seems like they pushed out a second at the end of last year.
    Thanks

  • This is entirely true, this review. You might think dude is gushing. No. He's not. This is the best guitar an ordinary person can afford, and compares very nicely to guitars in the $5,000 range.

  • Thank you I love my Epiphones. I have 4 master built. Dr500 in both rosewood and mahogany, ef500 cedar/ rosewood and an aj500 mahogany. In addition I have a somewhat vintage epi PR775 12 string and I love them all. They have great sound, very playable and a pleasure to pickup. 100% agree that we need to look at more than just the name. I would put any one of these up against any guitar.

  • I’ve been saying to all my guitar mates for years that the epi acoustics – especially the masterbilts are sleeper acoustics. For their price they’re phenomenal!

  • Sounds huge, deep, and rich. Dropped open tunings are something it should be particularly good at, in my opinion, Make a 12 string version, for when you cant haul grand piano around.

  • John, As a Californian, I want you to know our US President is an embarrassment to our country. We love you Canadians. Thank you for sharing your music with us. I am sorry for the horrible behavior of our so-called leaders. We love you John.
