David has a great, clear bass tone that is what I consider very clean for metal.
I don't like a lot of grit or clank in a metal bass tone (DD Verni) unless it's specifically going for a "modern" scooped guitar Mesa Boogie sound. I associate clank bass with sharply tuned Helmet/St. Anger snares and other 90s rock/metal cliches.
I also like using a Fender amp sim for metal bass, especially the official licensed ones like Amplitube had.
Fender amps are very underrated for metal because they are so clean. Maybe juicing it with a bit of Sansamp would be perfect.
As far as the EQ, I find I usually dial in a similar curve, except for me everything is fighting for 2 khz–guitars, snare, vocals, kick, bass pick attack.
Mixing guitar, bass, and kick so they all stand out but also gel well can be tough.
