Behringer’s Klon Clone Sparks Legal Mayhem

Bill Finnegan, the legendary creator of the Klon Centaur, has officially filed a lawsuit against Behringer’s parent company, Music Tribe, over their $69 Centaur Overdrive pedal. In this video, I break down the legal battle, what the lawsuit claims, and whether Behringer really crossed the line — or if they’re actually doing Finnegan a favor by bringing that mythical Klon tone to the masses.

We’ll also dive into your reactions from my previous video, discuss how this could affect other clone pedals, and ask the question… is Behringer the tone villain or the hero of affordable gear?

  • Since the Centaur is no longer being produced, where is the proof of money lost by people buying clones? There has been no loss of finance to Finnegan.

  • Behringer Centaur has soft clipping which was exactly what Bill released recently and caught them copying it

  • I do. Got mine before it was cool. Lived in Boston and for a while they were everywhere. I think you could mistake it. I have met new players that just don’t know.

  • He’s suing Behring because it’s a very large company and he wants to get a very big payday. The warm audio klone looks exactly like a teal klon, but no lawsuit for them ????????‍♂️ If I didn’t already have two klon klones I’d buy this one too, but never woo pay for a real one ????

  • Bought a new Klon Centaur lately from Sweetwater? Or anywhere? How about a Behringer Centaur? Ah – those are available. Trademarks have to be used to be retained. Klon hasn't used the trademarks so Behringer took them over and how owns them.

  • I think it's reasonable too conclude that a person would think the mini Klon is produced by the Klon company. Not everyone is "in the know" about boutique things. An average person could certainly be duped, thinking it's the same Klon that people rave about.

  • Now I want one , similar effect to notadumble discontinued. Import Clone wars may be coming with this Federal Government’s war on Chinese products.

  • It might sound the same but how long will it last tho. Anything iv'e ever had that was Behringer was built really shoddy and would just plain quit working.

  • give a taste for eventually buy the real thing. Helloooo Finnegan is not producing the Centaur, is he? If someone buys an original one, none of that money goes to Finnegan. Please clarify what you mean or just were just saying anything for the sake of a video?

  • Seriously! No one who is going to buy the Behringer clone thinks it's the real deal or is being fooled that it's the real deal. A real Klon does not have 'Behringer" printed on it anywhere. The problem Behringer has is that it should not be and/or be using someone else's registered logo/name.

  • if you want a centaur get the real thing, don't buy the counterfiet. or Get a better clone that does not look like the original.

  • i would have a problem with this, but Finnegan shows a considerably amount of greed, by intentionally keeping the supply very rare and then auctening them himself and getting 5000$ himselfs for a presumably 50$ worth of parts pedal. I dont lioke that attitude, so I just ordered the behringer one, even if i never had the plan to. Just for the lols 😉

  • Behringer was boldly going where no man has gone before, and if you remember, Captain Kirk beat Finnegan's @$$ by the end of the epsiode (Shore Leave). Then again, that Finnegan was a sort of clone of the real Finnegan. Stop me….

  • I wouldn't buy a real Centaur if doing so would cause world peace to break out, 10k for a drive when a $30 amazon pedal sounds the same lol. Why would you want the real thing if this sounds the same?
