This is by far the best way to string your Gibson or Epiphone-style electric guitar. This works for any Gibson or Epiphone tuners that have a hole that you feed the string through. Not only does this save time stringing your guitar it also is easy to remove the strings while still being nice and locked in place. This tip from the professionals was thanks to Joe Bonamassa’s guitar tech and I thought I would share it with you.

i don't think 1 peg distance is enough should be 2 pegs distance
Yeah, we've been doing that for ages. I guess it takes a while to get over the pond. ????
I've tried this on the higher unwound strings. It doesn't work. I measure, wrap it around, and then when I start winding I hear "KA-TINK!" and it comes unwound off the post.
Thank you. I've looked at quite a few restringing videos, and yours is the best I've watched. I only wanted to know how to restring my gitfiddle and that's it and you got right to it The method is the simplest and you didn't make us spend 10 minutes watching you talk about lubricating the nut a cleaning the fretboard. There are plenty of videos for that.
Awesome thanks!
This is so-called pinch method
Great! Thanks!
Why wouldn’t this method work on a Strat for example?
Well the guitar in the intro is certainly not wound with this method since all the strings are missing the one wind above, probably edited different video part : )
Anyone here 2025?
In the beginning, you show what it is supposed to look like….BUT IS NOT NOT HOW YOU STRING IT LATER , The beginning shot has the string going through on TOP…AND THE WINDINGS ALL WOUND BELOW ….NOT SANDWITCHED BETWEEN AS YOU INSTRUCT. YOU MAY WANT TO CLARIFY THAT OR RESHOOT THE HOW IT SHOULD LOOK SHOT TO BE BETWEEN THE WINDINGS. JUST THOUGHT I'D MENTION IT.
8 years later and this is still amazing????????♂️
It's a great way to string a guitar as the strings need little to no stretching, and it keeps the tuning.
That's exactly how I've always done it. Good to know it's right lol
I just did this just now. I’m hoping that this fix my tuning problems on my two Les Paul customs.????
I love you dude
I love you, man.
Very helpful video. Thanks for posting.

You’re doing it wrong. Never wind the speaking length of the string around the post. It will distort the windings and adversely affect the tone and life of your strings. Viewers beware—don’t do it the way this guy says!
Worked like a champ! My Les Paul tuning stability is much better, but I think I'll take a few more wraps on the high strings.
I am totally hopeless at changing strings, always let our tech do it, but I just tried this method, wow, I am astounded, excellent advice, thank you.
This is the only correct way to string up a guitar…
Of any brand, or style!
Solid body or accoustic!
Ive been using this method for over 50 years!
Thanks for this. Makes things a bit easier. Changing strings is definitely the worst part about playing guitar!
FYI for the string pull back reference, pull the string back the distance between the frets.
Like almost a decade later and I find this video????. After getting totally confused by other videos, I’m successful by your instructions the very first try. Same with your instruction video for vintage slotted tuners. I’ve been playing guitar for 15 years and mostly had vintage tuners…these ones here have always confused me a bit. Not anymore, appreciate it
