  • Furthermore, I played this bass on compositions by Rogier van Otterloo and Thijs van Leer, and it turned out to produce exactly the muddy, beautiful background and yet distinctive bass tone for which this bass fits so beautiful into their music: you think that the bass is too background, but as a child, the first thing I was then already humming on playing Rogier's and Thijs's music was mainly the bass sounds. It seems if now having this beautiful instrument and being able now as an adult to play along on their music on this bass confirms that I had an ear for bass already early of age.

  • What I also like much about the sound of this bass guitar is that it has 'progrock' possibilities: with that I mean that it also sounds great as a solo instrument, almost an un- bass like tone. I intend to use it both for bass parts of my compositions and as an instrument per se for ambient sounds.

  • Picked up a used 2018 about 2 years ago in mint condition for at the time and still do think it was a good barging for me because now they go for here in America they go for $499 new. I have a Gibson 1966 EB-0 and thought if it was half as good as the Gibson I would be happy. Well I love the look of the basses since I discovered Cream with Jack Bruce playing one but mostly playing the EB-3 Version with the Baritone switch. The Epiphone version should be more like the old EB-3L with the Baritone switch, the volume pots on the Epiphone's SG bass are horrible, there is no rym nor reason how they work. You can turn the sidewinder pup volume control and does nothing untill you get to about 7 and when trying to blend both pups together it seems like the volume knobs just do what they want to do. Going to get some better pots and may a Dimarzio one pup, I want this bass to be useful right now. At that $499 plus tax new Epiphone should put better pots in it.

  • Bought one from a friend of mine and I'm super into it right now. I had a Gibson Ripper (bought it in 1988) and that was my first 'real' bass and this EB-3 copy is my 2nd Gibson-style. Between the Ripper and the EB-3 I played 1 bass between 1996 and the present and it's a 78 Fender Telecaster Bass with a single humbucker at the neck and it's like rolling thunder through an SVT and Traynor Monoblock 2. The EB-3 has a nice bright high-end thanks to the bridge pick-up and it sounds great in the current 3 piece band I'm playing in presently. The neck is pretty thin so it took some getting used to. It's also really well built and I love the bridge as it's easy to set the intonation.

  • I just bought this bass. I noticed the top volume knob is rather loose, compared to the other volume and tone knobs. Is this the case with this bass across the board?

  • I just purchased one and I love the sound of the stock strings that they put on. Do you happen to know what they are?

  • Hey man, love the vid and the bass tone and i really want to buy one, but i do some distortion solos in some songs of my band do you think it would work well?

  • The full scale length and the two pickups make this bass so much better, and versatile, than the EB-0. I can live with the neck-dive (just). When you're sitting down, that doesn't matter.

  • The contrast between fingers and pick is great on this bass. Great review man. Exactly what I was looking for. The only thing I'd do to this is add a tone bleed mod so it doesn't sound as muted with the tone down.

  • I have this bass. Some great tones out of it. To get the old Motown sound I put a piece of sponge between the bridge and the smaller pickup, and use the bridge humbucker only with the tone control backed right off. Great for the likes of Rescue Me or any of the Jackson5 numbers. Its a good guitar if set up properly, mine has a very low action, but there are a few drawbacks:
    1. It weighs a ton! Gig with this for a few hours and you'll feel it in the morning.
    2. The neckdive is obscene. It must be one of the most badly balanced basses out there.

  • You started out with the front pick up alone and Distortion. Please,I know that it's almost a rock and roll cliche to turn up the front pickup on this bass and use a fuzz box or other means of getting distortion but as the first thing in a demo with no comment? Play it without distortion first and if you want add any effect you like.I prefer to hear the instrument through a good amp,no distortion and make up my own mind as the pick up combinations and tone control settings are demonstrated. There's but little time since your showing both pizzicato and finger pick with the various settings as well.

  • I’ve got this and it fell on my carpet and the neck snapped right in half, the whole thing had to be glued back together

  • I recently got another bass and it was between the eb3 and the Squier vintage modified precision bass pj. I wanted another 2 pickup bass I ended up getting the pj in lake placid blue. I still really like the eb3 and want one!! Great playing man thanks!!!!

  • Out of the blue question mate.
But the nut on my strat truss rod is loose and moves really easily.
Is this normal and what should I do?
    I'm new to this.

  • Don't worry about your playing Rob, it's way better than many bassist in bands nowadays. It's a nice bass, just with the exception of that neck dive, but would rock it if I had to.

  • Wow!
What a difference using a pick makes.

I am strictly a fingers player.
Trying to use a pick on the bass just feels too difficult.

  • A bass i find is great for working out songs , my music teacher at school always told us to listen to the lowest note , then work your way up to the top…Peace out 🙂

  • The 1st bassline i ever worked out was "Psycho Killer " through a 50 watt samick amp that looked like it was covered in "Fuzzy felt"…the bass was some cheap Rickenbacker copy , as for the wiegt of the amp…ONE lonsome carry handle…ha ha ha
