Vintage Revo Series Surfmaster Thinline Twin | Review | Guitar Interactive Magazine

The ‘Surfmaster™ Thinline’ is an original Vintage REVO Series guitar, designed and created by the UK Vintage design team and Alan Entwistle. Since 1993, Vintage has enjoyed an excellent reputation around the world for creating guitars which use a blend of classic timber selection, premium branded components from some of the biggest names in pickups and hardware, and an approach to design which lets Vintage instruments perform way beyond expectation. Nick Jennison tells us more.

  • Terrific review. It would be, even if I weren't interested in the guitar. Which I am, and which, on the strength of Nick's thorough and very musical examination, I am likely to buy when I have a few extra bob to spare! Great stuff – thanks Nick and Guitar Interactive.

  • Wow! Great job of showcasing the full range of this amazing guitar. To my ears, it’s the combo of two of my favorite types of guitars- Gretsch semi hollow bodies and Jazzmasters, plus an incredible bite. Hoping to get one someday.

  • Alan is literally on overdrive these days with the number of guitars he's knocking out. Great stuff 🙂

  • It looks very like a Revelation guitar Alan Entwhistle designed a few years ago that had humbucking P90s. I nearly bought one, sounded amazing but the build quality wasn't quite there for a £400 guitar and the neck was a very sticky gloss finish. I would be very interested if this better made

  • Very curious about those “locking” tuners. They look cool and vintage, but I couldn’t see how the lock mechanism would work. I didn’t see the typical knob/bolt that you spin to lock the string. Please explain, I’d like to find these and put them on a guitar.

  • Thanks very much for this excellent review, particularly the fuzz demonstration! I would really love a review of the Vintage REVO Integra, as I am curious about whether its pickups are a nod to Willi Stich (a.k.a. Bill Lawrence) and whether its nut is sufficiently narrow for me: Vintage does not list the nut width.

  • Thanks for the demo Nick; I love Alan's guitars which I am a collector of…having Alden, Jansen, Revelation & Rapier guitars already in my collection…my latest is a Vintage REVO Colt HS Duo in Blueburst, which is lovely.

  • It's cool that Nick remembers the discontinued (and missed) Charvel Surfcaster. As always, he makes a 500 euro guitar sound like it cost 5 times as much. ????????
