  • An attenuator makes more sense. You can vary the attenuation level, use your favorite cab and speakers, and doesn't require you keeping 2 different cabs (one quieter, one regular).

  • Hmmm, so I could swap out all the speakers on a full stack and gig down the local boozer without getting barred. Makes sense to me ????

  • So the new gag for the guitar industry is selling less efficient speakers at the same price?
This "clever idea" is very self-defeating, if you really want less volume use a smaller amp – that IS why most amps come in varying wattages…..

  • I have one of these, it's great, but unfortunately already on eBay! Volume reduction is really spot on, but speakers and sound are really personal preference. If there was a Peacekeeper Alnico Blue I'd be back in definitely.

  • Sounds great, but 90 dB is still far too loud. I'd rather just run a load box and IRs.

  • I made a JCM800, frontend is JCM800 but the power stage uses 2 watts of all tube power.. in to a G12M-65 creamback deliberately to reduce the volume further. Total max volume was measured at 100dB cranked. I built a 90% attenuator into the amp too for this very reason of crank at low volume.

  • That's so weird… because when you make a speaker that can take 50 or 100 watts without converting it to sound, it'll convert it to HEAT… that they can manage that is really weird.
Because you can't just make that energy to vanish, it has to turn into SOMETHING…

  • The product is rubbish, I’d rather use a Modelling Amp where you can get breakup (emulated) at lower volume if you like.

  • It's a cool idea, but a lot of the tone comes from the speaker and cabinet, so it's not really going to get you the same tone at a lower volume.

  • so many people in the comments and both people in the video do not understand the math in acoustics. sigh

  • I play two differently voiced Peavey mini heads that have built in attenuation. 20 watts max. 5 watts intermediate, and 1 watt minimum power all cranked full volume using two EL84 tubes screaming.

  • That speaker sounds like a fartbox. This is exactly what one should expect because if the speaker does not move a lot, it will not create significant nonlinear distortion, intermodulation and partial movement of the cone. So basically this cannot work from a physics perspective.
This cabinet sounds like a typical amp turned down. Instead of using this, one should either use a proper amp that does not sound bad when turned down (those exist… and most amps do kill the output tubes anyways if you turn them up, although this COULD be avoided completely if the designers did their job properly…) or use an attenuator or even a loadbox with IR.

Also 10 dB is perceived as double / half the loudness, not 10x. Otherwise, your 20 dB of reduction would be 1/100 of the previous volume which is obviously not the case, it is rather 1/4.

So for me, no thanks. I'll continue using my very small (5 W) class AB amps that are designed not to break on "11" and not prematurely wear output tubes with proper cabinets or IRs 🙂

  • If something is attenuated down by 3dB (-3dB), it is essentially stating approx half power output of what is provided to input

  • Not gonna lie I went and looked up what 'usp' meant and got a bit annoyed. I got it from context but the actual jargon just bothered me… Who ya trying to impress dig it all John?

  • The speaker sounds better than the attenuator. I remember the Marshall Power Brake sounded great. Why don't they make it anymore? My left ear says they owe me a free one.

  • This Peacekeeper speaker is interesting, because some amps are just way too powerful for the vast majority of venues. I’m thinking of a Dual Rectifier, a 5150, or even an AC30

  • 10dB quieter is HALF as loud! 10dB difference is always half or double the loudness, 10 times or 1/10th the power though.

  • "Turn it down" neighbour says. " No, just spent 200 quid on a special speaker that you are'nt supposed to be able to hear" . Neighbour; " I ain't complaining about the DB level , it's your playing that gives me Ear-ache"!

  • 3dB – doubles the sound intensity (voltage)
6dB – doubles the sound (air) pressure
10dB – doubles the perceived loudness (individual to a specific human ear)

  • There was an absolute bass frequency loss using the Peacekeeper. That would require re-eq-ing your amp in your home studio. Celestion is awesome but this one didn't quite get there.

  • I don't really care about having the best tone at home when I can crank my amp on a regular basis in a rehearsal space with a band – and then crank it again at gigs. But perhaps home recording folk will be into it.
