Flight Mini Bass TBL Demo and Review

Here’s the Flight Mini Bass in Transparent Blue! It kind of looks like where the sand meets the ocean, and it has a lot of perks. What do you think of this one? Thank you to Mike at Uke Republic for letting me do this review at your store!

  • @stephencoxbass
Thanks for your thoughtful and candid review. It convinced me to keep looking. I'm acutely attuned to intonation and can tell this issue would irritate me.

  • I have one coming soon. I will for sure move the bridge back a bit to hopefully help intonation. Thanks for a great review

  • I wanted to see a little girl from a strange country play the sh*t out of it. Instead we got someone pretending he was showing real bass tests.

  • Intonation issues could be exacerbated by the magnetic pull of the pickups and what must be fairly slack strings. Tuning A to C might improve string tension and feel.

  • I would put the B,E,A and D strings from a heavy gauge five string set and tune it to E,A,D,G to get more tension on the strings. I would also consider putting piezo saddles or a piezo bridge on it for more versatility.

  • I will look up any missing specs/price/etc. outside of what I got from your video, and I can Hello Google That. LOL. So I won't ask you anything about that stuff.

But what I will ask you about, is the following opinionated questions on your short experience with this bass as a comparison to other similar basses possibly.

    1) Would you still consider/call this particular Bass a Solid Body Ukulele Bass still, or just a Mini (as in smaller than Short-Scale) Electric P-Bass at this point?

    2) If you have enough experience playing them, how does it compare to any Solid Body Ukulele Bass with a Piezo pickup sound-wise and feel-wise due to the size?

    3) How do you think this sounds/feels compared to a regular (any brand) full-size, or regular-sized Short-Scale P-Bass, assuming you played/ and I know heard enough of them?

    4) If this particular Bass also came with a J-Bass style pickup and knobs like your Squire vs. just a P-Bass style pickup and Knobs, would you be interested in that even more, the same, or, what if they even made a (what some manufacturers call) a Deluxe version as in a PJ style model with P neck Pickups like you are playing in this video and a J bridge pickup, and the extra volume knob for the J bridge pickup to match? Options, Options, Options. LOL. Thoughts?

I know you said at one point since you do not own one, currently as far as I know, you wanted to add some kind of P-Bass to your Bass arsenal at some point, could this be it? Are you waiting to see what Kala's version may be like when it comes out this Summer and compare it? Are you still planning to add a P-Bass to your Arsenal eventually?

Again, I know Kala's P-Bass comes out this summer at some point. So I'll see how their offering fairs in comparison. Since you did not mention the price of this Bass, where this Bass is made, or who makes the pickups (I assume they are in-house no-branded made), I will look that up as I said at the start of my comments here (no biggie); as compared to the Kala (when Kala's specs are officially made available), other than what I know from Nam 2023, I'll wait till Kala updates their website with these new models to compare specs further even though I know the approximate price of what the Kala version may cost as announced at Nam.

I assume Uke Republic will carry the Kala version, so this could be a good comparison video for you in the future.

Since you didn't do a Live Stream last week, I assume your Live Stream for the month is tonight 5/11/23 at 7PM EDT instead. If so, I will see you online then, Ukulele Bass in hand to follow along with whatever you have planned with thought-up suggestions if you ask for them LOL. If my assumption is wrong as to a Live Stream from you tonight, then I'll just watch/comment on your next recorded video, or see you on the next Live Steam whenever that is.

Either way, Great Review Video (and I love the color/finish of this particular Bass example, in general, myself) as always – Cheers. ????
