  • Old Man, how many times do we have to tell you to “play authentic”?? That is not a Gibson Les Paul. (Lol)

  • Good little amps, and I gigged with one for a few months, but the humble Katana 50 does it all but better and cheaper. Nice vid Shane.

  • The settings would be more useful if we also knew where the volume and tone pots were set on your guitars.

  • I've been using my BJ for 20 years -NEVER use the fat switch – I get a really nice neck HB pup warm Jazz tone that's my go to setting – good clean funky tones with my Tele but I can't get a decent OD without a pedal (Marshall BB2 and EHX soul food)

  • Best useful tone I could find for band rehearsal + optimising headroom is the master full tilt and play with volume, around 2 or 3 = very loud and EQ to taste. This amp loves a clear (ish) drive pedal as well as booster pedals and i tend to use it's reverb as it works well with it. Not sure if it is ear saturation after playing loud for a while, but I suspect as it heats up, the quality / crispness / snappiness decays. Like its 14 kgs, small and easy to transport.

  • The Hot Rod III Series was one of the best, (if not the best) version of these amps.
I would buy a used III series, change the stock speaker and tubes and enjoy!
Thanks for this video Shane! ????????????

  • Just Amasing – Got no room for amps have 7 – I asked AI to help me create a Patch for the Mustang Modeller ? the reply is below not sure how good it is but that would be a start

Here's how to approach creating a Blues Junior patch on your Mustang:

    1. Choose an Amp Model:

If your Mustang model has a Blues Junior amp model, use that directly.

    If not, consider these alternatives:

Fender 57 Deluxe: A good starting point for a classic Fender tube amp sound.

Vox AC30: A great option for a Blues Junior-like sound, particularly when combined with overdrive.

    2. Add Effects:

Overdrive/Distortion: Use a light to moderate amount of overdrive or distortion to emulate the Blues Junior's characteristic drive.

Delay: Delay can add warmth, depth, and sustain to your sound.

Reverb: Reverb can add a subtle sense of space and ambience, especially spring reverb.

Noise Gate: If using single-coil pickups, a noise gate can help reduce hum and buzz.

    Optional:

Tremolo: A subtle tremolo can add a touch of movement to your sound.

    3. Experiment and Adjust:

    Gain, Master Volume, Treble:

Adjust these settings to dial in the desired level of drive and overall tone.

    Delay and Reverb Settings:

Experiment with the delay time, feedback, and mix, as well as the reverb type and level, to achieve the desired sound.

    Example Patch Settings:

Amp: Blues Jr. (if available), otherwise 57 Deluxe or Vox AC30

Pre-FX: Overdrive (Mythic Drive in the example)

Pre-FX: Delay (2290 Delay in the example)

Amplifier: Blues Jr. settings (adjust as needed)

Post-FX: Spring Reverb (65 Spring in the example)

    Additional Tips:

Experiment with different combinations of amp models and effects to find what works best for you.

Listen closely to the Blues Junior's sound when creating your patch.

Don't be afraid to adjust the settings and explore different options.

Consider using a noise gate to reduce hum and buzz, especially with single-coil pickups.

  • Thanks for the video Shane. I’ve got a red Tweed Mk III FSR with a celestion greenback in. Similar settings although it is less bassy.

  • Thanks for the ideas and sound samples. Stellar playing as usual. I just bought an older generation used tweed Blues jr. These should be some good initial settings to get started when it gets here.

  • Shane,
Thanks for this review/demo. I have one of these and thoroughly enjoy it. Of course, it still sounds better when you do it. HAHA Rock on.

  • The best setting for the BJ is to turn it off and turn on the Fender Princeton Reverb.

  • Shane, you like many others kind of miss a major point of the fat switch, Namely that it is foot switchable and makes for a great solo boost. You cant get the best cleans out of the amp with it in but it will make a clean ish solo stand out nicely in the mix. Add a overdrive pedal and the amp is much more versitile than most player I see using them seem to think. I used a Blues Jr. for years in a 10 piece band with horns. With a fulldrive pedal and a 1 button foot switch controlling the fat (boost) switch I was able to cover everything from classic 50's soul to hard rock and even get a convincing Santana lead tone when needed. That little box also had a surprising amount of volume and I never had trouble being heard, even at the occasional gig where it was not being miked.

  • I’m inspired to drag out my Gen 1 90s BJ. What are your thoughts on the stock fender speaker? That’s in there now.
I’ve tried a few different options. I have a Sheffield 1230, Jensen C12R and a stock blue marvel laying around.

  • The biggest problem with the BJ is that people buy them thinking "I can play this in my apartment bedroom". "Only 15 watts" isn't what they think it means. At very low volume they are anemic and weak sounding. BJs don't even begin to come alive bedroom volume and buyers think that is what they sound like and are disappointed in their purchase. If you have a basement or a jam room, they sound amazing at higher volume.

  • Something to note for those that do not know-some of these settings are NOT bedroom levels or apartment friendly. This amp gets pretty loud. Great video and very good tones, Shane. I was just playing through my BJ IV last night. I struggle to get the sounds want at quieter levels, so I have to resort to pedals.

  • I still believe I have one more amp to get and since listening to the Blues Junior here, I might have to rethink my decision. I like the tones and more importantly I love the price!!!????????????????????????????

  • Nice 1 Shane!

The clean tones were really nice, but, like most Fender amps, when you start pushing it, the low end gets really flubby, and it sounds like it's under a blanket!

That throaty sound you got with the Tokai LR, was pretty good!

  • Shane in every second video- "I'm gonna sell some amps."

Shane in every third video- "I'm thinking about buying this amp."

    This is the guitarists' curse.
