i may have to watch this several times. its a slow process lol
I enjoy your incredible creativity
Every Diatonic Major Scale is made up of a combination of two tetrachords, which is a scale of four notes. Whole tone ( 2 frets)
whole tone – half tone (1 fret) Add WT-WT-half tonewhole tone to the first tetrachord in sequence you get the major scale, no matter what note you start from. This gives you 7 notes and an octave higher of the first note. WWHW- WWHW.Each of these notes are called a degree of the scale from 1sr, 2nd etc to octave. If you combine degree one and degree 2 you get the most basic chord, the diad, hence diatonic. The 1st and second note in sequence, that is 1+2, then 2+3 then 3+4 etc will result in major chord, minor chord, minor chord, Major chord, Major Chord minor chord minor chord the octave of 1st chord. Adding the 3rd note of your tetrachord sequence, that is notes 123, 234, 345 etc will give you the triads at which stage the 7th degree chord becomes the Diminished
Using 1234, 2345, 3456 etc gives you the 7th chords. Scale degree 5 played with four notes is the dominant chord. Each key has only one dominant chord. The movement of 5 ( dominant) to 1 is know as perfect resolution since it is the most pleasing change. Moving from 4 to 1 is imperfect resolution, the second most pleasing. Therefore 90% of simple songs involve some combination of 1,4 and 5. These are written in Roman numerals I, IV (4) and V (5)
You will see that C scale has no sharps or flats. If you start the WWHW-WWHW sequence from the 5th. or dominant scale of C you must add one sharp, F, to get the Major scale of G (C-G 1-5). Starting the same WWHW-WWHW from the 5th degree of the new G scale adds another shape, and on and on.
If you start the sequence from the 4th degree you will add on flat. The 4th degree of that scale another flat.
Bottom line WWHW-WWHW is the most important thing to know. That the 5th and 4th notes are special in constructing other keys never changes this sequence
I define theory as a way to talk about playing, without an instrument in your hand.
Recently I've thrown myself into learning guitar music theory. I've realised how important it is in understanding the different things that you're doing and why certain things work and why certain things don't. I really want to improve my playing and have better knowledge of what I'm actually doing.
I think everyone should try to learn at least some basic theory. It really is so helpful. Great lesson as always! ????????
Love love love the intro. Absolutely beautiful. ????
Thanks I learnt a lot now to put it into practice
