Can you have multiple IRs within Tonex that's outside of your tone models? If so, cab's feature might be redundant. But if the Tonex can only have IRS that are tied to a amp model I can see how the IRs in the cabs can be used as "extra" flavors for the amp models. I hope that made sense. LOL????
Do Tones make simple cabs without the extra tronix to match with a helix. A slightly cheaper option but paid specific.?
Lee – Since real guitar amps never need a tweeter, why would an FRFR for guitar? (From years of stereo gear-watching, where a tweeter is indispensable, I’d long assumed the best guitar cabs would have these too. Until learning a guitar’s EQ is fully covered by a big Celestion or equivalent. So then, why needed in an FRFR??) Just for other inputs, not guitars? Piccolo and tambourine, perhaps.
you would want those "over kill" features if you were going to use your favorite amp into a loadbox. take the load box out into the this and now you have your IR's and post amp EQ. That's actually how I would use this. The only thing that this needs is the built in reactive load. If they would add a reactive load to this, they would create the ultimate amp solution. You could run your 100 watt plexi into something like this and have any cabinet tone that you want with post amp eq. You could run it on 11 and control the volume any way that you want.
Gentlemen, congratulations on your video content, lots of interesting products and entertainment in this channel! I feel like you missed an opportunity on this one, I would really like to have heard John circle back on his FRFR cab review from 6 months ago and contrast with the Fender and Laney (his preferred option). I’m curious to know has he tried the Tonex cab and is the Laney still his preference and if so, why? Previous review: https://youtu.be/tyjrNy8sDhk?si=kgJ3rzApO_ta6nzN
l replaced the speakers in my Klipsch Heresy's w/ a high end full range Electro Voice speaker and Eminence makes some nicer ones as well. What you dont want are the JBLs and Peavy BW silver cone types b/c of too much high end.
Friendly reminder: FRFR speakers do not sound like house PA systems. That was a tough lesson for me. I ended up buying an inexpensive PA speaker for home use. It sounds MUCH closer to silent stage, front of house sounds than an FRFR. They’re great for home or live use with a band, but if you’re trying to dial in tones with a PA and front of house mixing you…be ready for some quick tweaking to your EQ. An FRFR is just as far from the house PA as any amp/cab combo.
Iv never understood why modelling cabs need a tweeter , i hate the sound of my guitar through a fold back speaker
Just as big as an amp yet not quite one. I don't get it.
Video suggestion: can you do one or two episodes covering wet/dry or wet/dry/wet using amp modelers (e.g. Tonex One)
I think some of the incredible tone achieved by the big names (EVH, Satriani, etc.) is by using wet/dry and I would like to see how that could be done on a budget.
I’d really like to see and hear it done with the 3rd Power Dragon model in the Satriani Tonex bundle.
The built in IR loader is for modeler pedals without a FX loop I presume.
I’m not sure but I think the Rockman cab from the 80’s was FRFR. It wasn’t a powered cab though.
For Real For Real
I feel like you guys were right there with the purpose of the presets and such…and would just keep abandoning the concepts lol.
What if you had something like a simplifier, with zero wattage but did not want to use the cab sim features there?
Or just any peddle board set up that did does not include any modeler-
Or like Pete was on to which would be my scenario, you have a Katana with the line out option where you can go into stereo. The FRFR is not gonna pick up the cab quality of the katana, and the one I have (speaker) does not sound so great so the contrast of a Flat Response speaker paired with the Katana speaker will be palpable. I assume adding a lil bit of the presets might work to blend the sounds a bit.
"why not just use another amp" you ask- what If I also want to use this speaker with my acoustic guitar- I have options to let it be flat- or have some sort of Cab sim- one speaker- multi options, but no real need to buy a separate modeler of any sort. Thats at least my understanding of the features and how one could use it. Not sure it's worth it, not sure I would get it over the HeadRush FRFR. Gotta look more into it.
Some tones and settings sound pretty impressive…being old school but not set in my ways however, I question if it is any better than using a decent solid state amp like an Orange or Quilter with a good pedal board?. I can certainly get similar tones with the SS- pedals setup I use a lot.
I just bought a Peavey Studio pro 112 solid state amp for 100 cad dollars. Happy with it. ????????????????
I think for the Powecab + HX Stomp, with a limited DSP, it can mean you're saving the cab emulation block in the DSP.
Sounds shyte and you know it.
8:31 offloading the IR to the cab, frees up additional blocks and CPU power for other effects.
You know, I'm just a poor guy. And I have a lot of multi effects with cab emulations and amp models. It seems to me that I can just use a good quality powered speaker and an EQ pedal since my multi-effects already have amps and cabs
If you really need those 3 súper professional mic to sound good, I wonder how will sound in the fresh…
I would love to see a shootout between the Tonex cab and the L6 Powercab 112+.
Should’ve mentioned your Reloader when discussing late night playing and it being an option to record with minus the amp.
The reason for external IRs is that it enables you to get more effects in your processor, freeing up a cabinet/IR block.
I am a professional gigging/touring musician and I love my ToneX and the CAB….(I have already ordered a 2nd one for various soundstage setups) The Mic/Amp dial has blown me away as I was able to AB other famous brands in a real world live setting at Volume and the ToneX CAB is amazing. Also when I consider carrying/transporting TWO 2 x 12inch custom cabs and heads plus a pedalboard etc and I can not feel or hear a big enough difference I am using the TONEX now…..also the GRN lift plus MIDI control allows you to have some crazy signal chain setups too or 8 different CABS using digital and anolgue with the CAB….so real world usable gear. Thank you IK Multimedia….for me this gear is a life saver and makes my job way easier????????????????????????
Meh….
I'n a nutshell, if you're using a modeller, then use a 'full range' capable cab only, -a conventional guitar cab can't avail full range, -it can only provide a degree of 'frequency' response via its pre and amp stages which is fake as hen's teeth usually.
sounds crap
The built in IRs would be cool maybe if you just wanna plug a regular distortion of OD pedal into it. The amp isn't useless if you don't have a modeling unit.
All FRFR systems sound different so just use a guitar cab and don’t worry about having to high cut etc
We are told, 'You don't need an amp'. Two minutes later buy an FRFR speaker which is an amp. I thought all you needed to do was turn up at a gig with a guitar and magically sound would appear. I guess it depends on what is for sale this week.
