What goes up must come down- if you're going to play an E natural over G minor-(g minor 6th) , then the E natural has to go somewhere- otherwise it's what Shoenberg calls a "vagrant tone"- a tone that wanders and goes nowhere- where does the tritone you created resolve?

It’s amazing how from any diminished cord by lowering any note a half step you can get a dominant seventh chord
I remember Pat Martino explaining that diminished chords are parental chords
