Neural DSP Quad Cortex 80s Rock Tone.

I’ve had the Neural DSP Quad Cortex for about a month and a half, I’m starting to work out what internal amps I really like and what I don’t. I’m a big fan of the Marshall 100 Plexi Patch tone. In this video, I demonstrate how to program an 80s style rock tone. This tone is available for free on the Cortex cloud, all you have to do is download the app and search for The Studio Rats. The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

  • @thestudiorats

I tried to built the rig exactly like you did. Of course it sounds like a Marshall but not like yours. I thought it could be the guitar and tried with a PRS CE 24. But still not close to yours. Maybe the speakers or my audio interface I am routing it through?
    Which components are you using?

  • Qc sounds good, but I wana see a video of you playing QC vs Axe fX
For me I love the Fractal stuff so much that nothings feels good to me beside the fractal audio. Wana see a video of you using both and sharing your experience with both the units

  • Sorry I’m late here! Great playing! I was curious what you were using to monitor your sound? Was it coming from the micd amp in the back or was did you have some sort of stereo speaker set up? Thank you!!!

  • made this by following your vid and used a Charvel and sounds nothing like yours … its muddy as hell even with some eq .. super weird for me

  • Hey I just found this but can only find Neural Captures but no presets on your Cortex Cloud. Any chance to get those presets still?

  • Thank you so much, This is just the tone I'm after, I just bought the Quad and was struggling to find an amp and cab combination that worked for me – I just followed your video and now I'm so happy with the tone – thank you!

  • What the… Only the amp brings you to the marshall tone that I love without tweaking with different eq's

  • I dont even have a QC but you made this look real simple. I had an Axe FX and spent so much time trying to get a decent tone. i wasnt playing anywhere near what i should have been!

Maybe its time to think about this unit. Cheers.

  • Hey great sounding preset, I just tried it. But even doing the same process you did, it's super noisy and buzzy. Do you have the same issue and then manage to edit for the video, or doesn't even happen to you? Thanks!

  • I just found this video and your channel. Great info and tone.
I cannot find your presets or captures on the cloud. Did you take them down?

  • Sweetwater is selling Quad Cortex with a free Plug In "Soldano SLO-100 Amp and FX Suite Software".

They are different products: the plug in you use on your computer, etc. But I was wondering: is there a difference between the two Soldanos – the plug in and the one that comes standard on the Quad Cortex?

I ask because, the Soldano plugin and it's effects already comes with Quad Cortex. So other plugins would be more interesting gifts – Petrucci's, for example.

  • I’m new to your channel & SO impressed! I love your QC presets & the way you dial-in the amp, drive pedals & the Delay/Reverb. I have already learned a lot that I didn’t realize with the QC too. You’re a great player as well! Peace! X-Mann

  • I was considering a unit like this but it’s far too complex for my needs. Think i’ll stick to pedals.
