I have the 12-string version; Model 5993. Made in 1973, but I bought it in 1979 from a school teacher. Although it was already six years old, it was in mint condition. Of course with it being 49 years old now, it also has "battle scars."
Years ago, I had the bridge modified. The metal bracket was removed, the routing was filled in with a piece of rosewood, then re-routed for a graphite saddle. The tone and volume difference was like night and day after the mod. Action is very low with no string buzz. Intonation is absolutely perfect from one end of the neck to the other. The luthier that did the work is one of the best in the country.
And last but not least, I added an active piezo pickup under the saddle. Sounds awesome through an acoustic amplifier with a little chorus and reverb.
Over the years I have bought and sold many guitars and I currently own 20 guitars of all shapes, sizes and specs, but this one has always been my favorite. It practically plays itself and busking with it over the years helped put food on the table. I could never part with this guitar for any price!
Thank you for sharing yours with us! After all these years, your baby is still beautiful!
I just picked up an old Dorado just like yours. If it was American made, it would probably be in the thousands of dollars range I purchased it for around $200. Every thing about it is a high end dreadnaught. I'm going to keep it and show it off to my fellow musicians
Great guitar. We own it's fancy cousin the 5984 classical guitar featuring a neat little prismatone ceramic pick up. I enjoyed your video.
I have that exact same guitar. My grandfather gave it to me when I was 10 or 12
this is beautiful guitar wow!
You bought that acoustic before I was born lol! Do you remember what you paid for it back then? Or which town, name of the guitar shop?
